Quite so! Serves me right for not reading it.

If you have the space and initial capital that seems a very clever way to do it - chances are that car's increase in value alone has paid for the other one, and that's likely got a relatively low mileage on it anyway.

Nope, if you've got room for a full size barge then do it!

Incidentally, this E39 touring looks good for the miles.

That is mine... it only took me 24 hours to navigate the complexity of uploading my ad... paperbag
I need a big daily driver! Simple a to b car so I don't have to abuse the tt so much!

How was this to own and run?

LWB S class ?

Half a bag haggle away from thread budget.

A bit leggy at 145k but it’s only just run in. It might work as long term purchase as it will be more difficult to shift the closer it gets to 200k.

But stick a cheap private plate on it and it looks a million bucks on your driveway.

That colour scheme always has the unfortunate whiff of ‘executive mincab’....

I'd like to think it might be someone who bought a pair of them - use one, moth ball the other.
It was actually.

I left my E39 at the airport meet ‘n greet yesterday for two weeks, only a handful of miles short of the magic 100k mile mark.

The fact that I may not be the one to witness the odometer click over niggles me far more than it should. Still, it should be interesting to see how many laps of Wythenshaw it completes in my absence.

When I had the 210 I was convinced it had been used as a mini-cab for a few days whilst I was away, but as a div I forgot to take the mileage before and it was not on any of the paperwork. I knew it took at least 8 miles to warm up and when he brought it round it was at full operating temperature.

The owner of the off-site airport I used near T5 a couple of weeks ago described me as a 'man of taste' which gave me a warm feeling. He said he hadn't
seen a 140 coupe for ages, so he knew his MB model numbers. He claimed to own (and I think I believed him) a Pagoda and a DB5 though he seemed far too young. A bit of a wide-boy but friendly enough.

I've never had a diesel e39, and as the 2.8i in mine is one of the best parts about it, maybe that's where the difference really lies. Lot's has been written extolling the virtues of the e39 in general, and I would echo that in the main. They just drive really nicely, even when a bit neglected, and I still think they look classy after a good wash. Oh, and the 523i with the tow hook in the pictures was great for towing my wooden garage to a new location in the garden! (only about 20 feet on scaffold poles, but it did the trick).

My 528i specifically is a good spec (comforts, high obc, rear sensors, and the bbs rc 090s). The engine is very smooth, and I think there was a noticeable difference after I change oil, plugs etc a few thousand miles ago. Its niggley things lets the car down really - paint is great from a few feet, wheels could do with a refurb, the odd spot of rust here and there, and the usual pixel issues. On mine, the pixels are always ok in the colder months for some reason, so Feb Mot has never been an issue. I'm not trying to say it is better than it is, because I am only reluctantly getting rid!
Yep, that's what keeps bringing me back to them, they look fantastic. Yours looks rather nice too from the picture; I think they're a car which actually look better as an estate. Is yours a manual or an auto?

Thanks, yes they do still look good for a 20+ year old design. Mine's an auto. Suits the car in my opinion, but I've never had a manual e39, so somewhat biased.

Must be smoking a lot of illicit substances over there in Brizzle. It's £2,000 in good order not with the dents.

Ok, so these are clearly not the best photos, but I am a bit restricted as the 450 has not MOT at the moment, so I can't move it around much on my somewhat cramped driveway. Hopefully that will change tomorrow, as it will be getting its drag link fitted to - finally - pass the mot. Fingers crossed!

Here's the w124 I acquired recently, What I've realised is that it has definitely had quite a bit of paint in the past, although it still looks pretty good. What lets it down are the bumpers, especially the rear. Does anyone know if these should even have been body colour? I need to get them resprayed eventually, and am wondering what colour to go for.
