They look like E39 staggered style 32's, and if 17" then they should be absolutely fine.

The 18" are a little more tricky: generally these will have been fitted to an E38 and the offset and centre bore are slightly different to the E39. They do go on an E39 but with some small mods.

BMW did make an 18" Style 32 for the E39, but these are super rare.
Yeah garage said the 18s on the car are potentially repo copies as no BMW marks anywhere. Look great but 3 of them are egg shaped... just spent £400 on 2 front callipers and pads to solve the braking vibration but it’s done nothing so wheels and tyres next frown

We had that a few pages ago, the general feeling was that it sounds like a bargain at first but engine issues (which could be something other than the stem seals) means it's probably not that much of a bargain, no matter how rare.

Air suspension warnings and TPMS warnings make it sound rather unloved.
Valve seals are not so much of an issue so far in my experience, there is a company that does the valve seals and rocket cover gaskets for £800- which is a bargain imo. My 650i emitts a bit of blue smoke when left to idle, it did worry me when I bought it. But now, I am happy with the oil consumption and does not smoke under normal driving. If it gets to be an issue, I will get it sorted.

Top bearding! (They also apparently made a 20” version for the E65, which I have never seen, but think I want, as they’re IMO perfect for the e46/e39/e38 ranges, - but I would need to see one first though, crossing design generations doesn’t always work).

Also, on the topic of wheels, my Brabus SL wheels have arrived woohoo but no pics as I’m nowhere near them until next week you bunch of ignorami don’t appreciate them for what they are. laugh

Given the labour involved I'm not sure how you could get the seals and rocker cover gaskets done for anything like that.

They use the AGA tool, so no head removal.
I must say it does seem very cheap, but they do seem to have pretty good reviews

Yes true. Note to BMW: just because you can doesn't mean that you should wink

If you consider May a long time ago then yes it has, my Omega has had oil leaks advisories for a few years The Man was just being helped in pointing out it will fail this year unless I pressure washed it, I'll go back to lurking as you were.

Do they list the price or have you enquired? Cheaper can only be a good thing, browsing through their page they've certainly done a few, 6 cylinder cars too.

I shamefully confess that I'm currently in talks with the local brightly lit glass 'n steel palace of dreams, who have been feeding me coffee and chocolate chip cookies, talking in acronyms and rolling the pen across the desk at me to sign on the dotted for something very new and shiny, and yet I've opened up that that advert far more times today than I should, questioning my sanity further with each click.

What a superb looking motor car.

Perhaps on a nice E65 rather than one covered in stick-on tat? biggrin

Sorry, didn't mean to come across as aggressive, this thread is a broad and hopefully welcoming church that should encourage lurkers to join in. smile

I had a car fail for an oil leak about 15 years ago, admittedly it was dripping at the time but it was a straight fail.

I found them through thier Gumtree ad, council I know...

"All this for £390 (4-cylinder), £790 ( N62 V8), £1000 (N63 V8), £1500 (V12 N73/N74) plus VAT including brand new, quality oil valve stem seals and valve cover gaskets"

Am I going crazy, or has the low cost barge market gone crazy price wise recently. Every car posted on here seems at least a grand over what I think is the real price.

Admittedly I haven't really been looking for the past couple of years and only just started keeping an eye out, but I expected the prices to have gone down, not have a 50% markup!
The recent acquisition of 0a's GOLD!!! 300e with the Brown/Brown/Brown interior meant I had (purely for research) to have a brief squiz through previous volumes of the thread, looking for any info and pics. While flicking the pages, the previous thread suggestions/photos of fabulous & amazingly cheap barges hove into view, time and again. I wouldn't recommend anyone does the same and goes raking up the past.

It's analogous to an episode of Bullseye, in that you will see what you could have won.

Mechanic shook the car on the ramp and showed more movement on the bottom? But not a huge amount. He reckoned that with the buckled wheels and uneven tyres that they might cure it before spending on suspension.

Unless you tell me that the arms are less than £200 and I’ll get those done?

Barge tastic spending this month (but it’s too nice to drive comapared to other diese hatch back snotter alternatives!)

Last month I bought a set of upper and lower control arms from BMWMotormec for around £200 - they were Meyle, but motormec recommended them.

If the vibration is specific to braking, I doubt wheels and tyres will cause it. They're more likely to cause a vibration that is speed-specific rather than braking-specific.

The E38 / 39 braking shimmy is a very famous fault, often hard to cure, and I think the suggestion of upper arms is a good one as a starter.
