Good luck with the 450. Wonderful looking thing.

The C124 may have had two tone colour; it was fairly common. r129sl is your man-in-the-know.

I can can offer a VIN decode but it's too old for any accuracy. EPC might confirm what the colour(s) should be.

On a facelift 124 the bumper inserts are the same colour as the Saccos. Which are a different but complimentary colour to the body. On a black or blue black car it’s either stratus or alto grey, I can’t recall which.

On my blue-black w124, the Sacco panels and bumpers are alto grey.

Looks half decent and last MOT seems to have the previous litany of advisories sorted but perhaps a couple of hundred quid too much?

I left my E39 at the airport meet ‘n greet yesterday for two weeks, only a handful of miles short of the magic 100k mile mark.

The fact that I may not be the one to witness the odometer click over niggles me far more than it should. Still, it should be interesting to see how many laps of Wythenshaw it completes in my absence.
off topic but don't use meet and greet services as these type of things are always in the news for just dumping your P&J on a residential street somewhere. People thinking the 'valet parking' aspect is classy but in reality it's just so you can't see the location where your vehicle is kept.

I spy comfort seats (with memory and elec column) and nav (outdated but looks nicer). May be more niceties lurking too (apart from the fact is a facelift 530i SE on 16" wheels!).

This is the sort of thing I was meant to buy but ended up with a 525i Sport which looks faster than it is wobble

What's the views on these, considering a swap around of motors.

Early aaaaaargh-drive. Not in a million years.

S211 are not without their annoyances, but I think they're twice the car that is.

Totally agree on 211 vs E61 - pick up a V8 S211 instead, they really are great cars.

Looking at the spec I'd say that's probably fairly-priced, assuming it's not rotten etc of course.

Comfort seats must be a rare option on them. I'd say the SE spec with 16" wheels is the most desirable spec. I'd be tempted to put style 32's on it and keep those for winter.

That car has an electric steering column. That must be super-rare? Or did it come as an easy-entry/exit function packaged along with the clever seats?

A colleague of mine has one of these (his is a 530i) on a 54 plate that he's had from nearly new. It's been great until maybe 2 years ago, and it is now utterly riddled with niggling electrical faults and the diff was done in at 150k. The tailgate glass pops open on it's own, which can be exciting when you're on the motorway!

Yep, mine had both and I don't think I've ever seen one without the other, offhand. They work together to provide the three user-defined seating position memories.

Would it come with memory seats as well? Quite common when you get one you always get the other, at least with other manufacturers.

I have those wheels on my s211 E500 Elegance, and they are in dire need of a refurb. I was going to replace them with something else, but you've all made my mind up to keep them. Thanks
I managed to get a set of those in excellent condition, with almost new Pirelli winter tyres fitted, for the princely sun of £220. Won them on eBay, and had driven to Grantham to collect them within 3 hours before the guy changed his mind. Total bargain.

Bar the odd thing that should just be a physical button (traction control for one), what's actually so bad about early i-drive that's so different from later versions?

It certainly isn't difficult to use.
