I have receive THAT call from garage, that starts with, good news or bad news. Good news, suspension work is done. bad news is the ABS light was not a reluctor ring, it is an obscure ABS hydraulic pressure switch, that is not sold by Mercedes individually, Bosch no longer manufacture it, it is specific to the R129 and W140 and the cost of the small sensor is £600 quid, if you can find it. The alternative is £3K for a full ABS unit.

How would sir prefer to be reamed ?

I am now overworking Google to find this damn part. My simpering wallet in the corner, has just slipped in a coma.
Wasn't there an episode of wheeler dealers where they got a corrado ABS unit refurbished, not sure of the company that did it but may be worth a look at the old episode.
You can get the ABS unit refurb for £250 or so, This is a hydraulic fluid pressure sensor for the ESP, which is out of manufacture. The joys of expensive old barges.

What on earth were Mercedes thinking with the interiors on cars from that era? Always puts me in mind of the world this chap lives in

I always quite liked the way the 2nd gen CLK looked and an CLK500 would be a nice sleeper, but everyone I've known personally who has owned one has found it to be an unpleasant ownership prospect. Ex MILs 2007 convertible was particularly problematic. In fact the only person I know who has anything nice to say about them is a chap on here called something like "MrMercedesCLK"

We had that a few pages ago, the general feeling was that it sounds like a bargain at first but engine issues (which could be something other than the stem seals) means it's probably not that much of a bargain, no matter how rare.

Air suspension warnings and TPMS warnings make it sound rather unloved.

I don't think I can think of a single reason to go for an E61 545i over an S211 E500.

Are they any nicer to drive con brio? Maybe that's the one reason?

Cheaper, for sure. Haven't seen many E500's dipping below the top of thread budget yet.

Chap over the road has a 545i on a 54 plate, I thought the tales of their lack of oil tightness were exaggerated but this thing leaks would make British Leyland blush. Was the 550i/750i any better as they seem to sneak into budget too.

That is rather lovely, perhaps worth a thorough inspection as the MOT goes from having quite a few advisories to clean in a year... Even so with those colours I'd struggle to say no.

I think so, but I'm not 100% sure.

For all the R129's out there. An interesting news letter from the r129co site. Includes some buyers guides.

Might be worth a mention that excessive oil leaks are an MOT failure these days, I had my Omega serviced last month and The Man said make sure you get the bottom of the engine and gearbox pressure washed before your next MOT, incidentally that was the first time I have EVER paid a garage to do a routine service on a car as I normally do it myself I'm 58, hip replacement has curtailed crawling about for a while though.

That's been a failure point for a long time...

I think so, but I'm not 100% sure.
The earlier 530i is the one to go for if reliability is a concern. Nice engine too.

Sorry for slight thread derailment but I was wondering if e39 experts could tell me if these wheels will fit on my e39 Sport (the 18” Parallels I have are buckled so I’m wanting to down size to 17”)

(Or if anyone has 4 wheels and legal tyres going PM me!)

E39 offset is ET20 for 17" wheels, but that's all I can advise.

They look like E39 staggered style 32's, and if 17" then they should be absolutely fine.

The 18" are a little more tricky: generally these will have been fitted to an E38 and the offset and centre bore are slightly different to the E39. They do go on an E39 but with some small mods.

BMW did make an 18" Style 32 for the E39, but these are super rare.
