That was one of the items on my theoretical "fettle" list!

What are RRC's like as an ownership prospect aside from catastrophic rust? I imagine they leak like the Torrey Canyon and get mpg figures in single figures, but otherwise?
They're wonderful! I was very attached to mine (other than the rust, leaks and mpg... hehe ).

Very comfortable, great visibility, surprisingly compact. Parts availability is brilliant as is online tech support. There is a laptop based piece of software called Rovergauge which lets you plug into the engine for diagnostics. They seem well loved by the world as a whole as they don't have a "nasty SUV" image. You get many "my old man had one of those" comments, and retired traffic cops get a bit misty eyed as well. You could easily use one as a very pleasant daily driver if you could stomach the fuel consumption.

I've had some young Arnold Rimmer in Sector 7G write something called a 'script' or something. I don't even need to be awake now.

He got an extra poppadum under the door as a reward.

This must be a nightmare to sell. I can't imagine the market for a 20 year old large 7 series at around £25k is very big at all!!!!!

If I had a spare £25k and somewhere to park it undercover I'd definitely be part of the market for one of those! What a beauty.

What's the appendage on the back of the passenger seat?

Earlier 740 is cloud9

VHS player for a motorised pop up monitor on the very top of the high part of the centre console.

I thought the bulge in the seat back was the fax machine and the vhs player is in the centre console for the rear passenger.

Long time lurker here...
If I was to look at it I would like the car sorted. He has rear end sagging and did not look into it for the last 18months. Only serviced the engine...
That struck me as well.

Really well written ad but why not get the wheels refurbed, replace the air strut and fix the broken vent?

Fax machines have a visible hole for the paper to be produced. The enclosure on the back of the front passenger seat hinges open to reveal a VHS machine.

Talking of lpg I saw a sad sight on the m6 today a rusting daimler towing a folding caravan, I wondered if this is the end result of "it's better to ask forgiveness" smile , this was tempered by the sight of an interceptor in black with tan leather on the m62

Not sad as far as I'm concerned. He's cool as a/doesn't give a/fk. And I'm not even a caravan fan.

If you can afford that from new what do you need heated seats for?

It'll always live inside and be thoroughly warmed by your help.

The sad bit was the dissolving Daimler with the filler of shame

Weird way to spell 'triumph'.

I have bowed to the pressure though, and as part of the summer spruce-up, my filler of triumph has been repositioned and hidden, Q-Branch-style.

Soooooo cool.

I was with a new-car-buying leasing type earlier at the local BMW and Mercedes dealerships.

I was bored in both dealerships, so went and found the S-class and 7 series long wheel bases.

Stationary review... the BMW was a lot more spacious. But my god did it feel cheap inside.

The S class felt a lot more upmarket, but obviously blingy. After 10 minutes I almost fell asleep in the back the seats we so comfortable. It had the merc star on it as well.

I'd go for the merc over the BMW.
