Having said how much I like my 211, I parked next to a s124 in Waitrose car park today. Reminded me how handsome the 124 is. It is just right in so many ways.

fingers crossed! Just purchased an S211 myself - it's wonderful !!
I have been very impressed with mine, it’s a hugely capable car. Not been cheap to run though...

Which model have you bought?
2007 E350 Sport Estate. Juicy around town, but it makes a wonderful noise when you open the taps..

Good choice. I am keeping an eye out for one of these in case the verdict is not good when I take my 211 to the garage.

Like the S500 above, this is over thread budget and priced somewhat optimistically.

Budget tyres don't help and I think I prefer the grey interior in the aforementioned S500.
But that colour is wowza.

After the Outlander was returned but the replacement car for the wife (A1) didn’t turn up due to an alleged blow out en route, we found ourselves on a long weekend in Cumbria using a hire car, at somebody else’s expense for the cock up (a 2018 Skoda Rapid) to do the heavy lifting instead of entrusting it to the Alfa 147

I don’t know how Skoda do it but the internal space is not unlike an E39 and the wife has graciously conceded a bigger car (hatch/estate to cover the dog) is required.

I know the stock answer for £1000-1200 is V70/E39/9-5 but I’m open for more leftfield suggestions, I’ve had two E39s and a 9-5 before and I do like to try different marques.

I tried for sheer comedy to sell the wife on a vel satis, it was going well with interior shots first until she saw the ‘sad whale face’ exterior photos.

I’m not averse for mild spannering but it must be fairly reliable.

Also, I know it is the wrong engine for the 9-5 but how reliable was the 3.0T V6 petrol (There’s a 3.0 Griffin at £1200 that’s been sat around for ages with an expiring mot in Aug that I keep finding myself going back to on auto trader).

Mini review of the quite respectable Skoda Rapid that no self respecting threadist would ever buy available on request smile

If this were closer to me, I'd have pulled the money out of the cash point and bought it myself.

I can attest to the loveliness of these already, I had an Avus blue 323 sport with similar moon mileage and the straight six is plenty fast enough and beautifully smooth with about 31mpg if driven sensibly.

Unfortunately, mine resorted to failing to find gears a bit too often for a manual, had a vampire drain on the battery and the load space on an E36 isn’t a patch on a proper estate/E39.

I can confirm for braver threadists that they can be broken for more than the purchase price of the one linked above biggrin if it detonates shortly after purchase.

Yes, although I ran an £800 9-3 Aero coupe before my Alfa for seven months so probably already scratched that torque steering itch.

I decided to pass over that as a minor tweak! It's cheap though...

They may be priced somewhat optimistically, but both the S500 and CL500 are lovely things.

The Lux Lexus continues to impress and, rather surprisingly, charm. It isn't a car that excites, but it is so very competent and effective that it kind of gets under your skin. The V8 is a peach, and the steering is really precise, very much more MB than Volvo that's for sure.

I went on a voyage of discovery today just following my nose, and took a gratuitous shot in the middle of nowhere which I'll share just because.

It's done a thousand miles since being washed, and you can see the little cloudy de-lamination on the driver's window which is very common. 96k miles.

Much as I dislike Gumtree, there's a lot to like there.

Someone get it bought. (No good for me due to no dog space, otherwise I would be biting a knuckle...
any one here pick this up?

Having said I didn't want a 9-5 estate, I’m one phone call tomorrow away from buying a 9-5 Aero unseen and allowing a bking from the wife to waft over me for taking a grand out of the ‘kitchen fund’ because I obviously haven’t sold the Alfa yet...

I’ve asked the ‘sump drop question’ and a few other things via a pm so all being well, I’ll have a 9-5 to tt about in just as soon as I can smuggle it on to the driveway.

As is the way with such transactions, it was concocted part way through my second bottle of Rioja this evening...

Coincidently 9-5 estates have popped up on my radar. They seem remarkably cheap but I know nothing about them. Is there any thread knowledge on say a 2.3 turbo automatic?
