Chipping in with today’s other purchase.

Have to say it’s great to be back in an R129, and the car itself is in better shape than I dared hope. There are issues to sort (roof stuck in place, exhaust blowing, bit of rust). And I had an eventful run home, the wiper mechanism decided to st itself in the drizzle of the M62 prompting a roadside codge job. But overall the car is pronounced fit, not only by me but by r129sl who also put the car through its paces, plus was extremely generous enough to taxi me around when British rail failed and provided refreshments, car chat and a very lovely period ‘129 brochure. Top man.
Fabulous, what an excellent way to spend a Saturday, now all day today cleaning your new toy! Early R129s, imo, just look SO right. The second prettiest of all the Sacco Benzes, the prettiest of course being the 190E 2.3/2.5-16.

Looks like my old Omega has a head gasket gone and wont be economical to fix frown

Been looking for a Lexus RX and came across this GS300 which looks great value for money any thoughts please? MOT history looks ok but will need rear shocks soon.

Omega - HG diagnosed? If its a V6, oil coolers fail, giving very similar symptoms.

Very nice chap is Olly and that car is a bargain. I think he will be well within thread budget even with some significant works of overhaul and improvement.

My speeding pull. Basically they hadn't gathered the evidence very well. I'd clocked them behind me, watched them drop off at a slip road junction, then really put my foot down. Five miles later, waiting on red at a traffic light roundabout, the police car roars up behind me, lights blazing. They showed me the video. There's my car up ahead. Then they turn off. Then they switch the video off. Then they turn the video on again. Then they rejoin the road. No sign of my car. Then they're driving flat out at 144mph. For ages. And ages. Still no sign of my car. Still they're driving flat out. "Where's my car, though? Ah, there it is, stationary at the roundabout."

"Look, we could measure the road properly, do the time and distance calculation, work out how quickly you went from point 'A' to point 'B'...".

"Sounds like a bit of a faff. Are you going to do me or not?"

"Not this time. Just watch yourself. You really don't want to get done at those speeds. Keep it under the ton and you'll be fine."

There followed a (really) very pleasant conversation about cars, driving, policing and all of that. Policeman's parting shot: "Come on, how fast were you going?"

I guess you know better than to ever answer that!

Excellent!!!

The closest story I have to that is similar in that they caught up with me several miles later. I apparently only evaded a ticket as he hadn't got any!

This would have been the case in the halcyon days of my youth around a million years ago, but not when you have a missus who gently reminds me I’ve had a whole jolly day out buying cars we don’t need with cash we haven’t got, and that the new wardrobe doors are still under the bed and not on the wardrobe.

Congratulations Olly. Perhaps I need to sort myself a 129 one day before they all disappear and/or the values go daft.

The only way the R129 will ever disappear is if I buy them all up. And though God loves a trier I think that's still some way off.

Olly might be eligible to record his experiences (cars, not wardrobes) on this thread now

Forgive another out-of-budget car (18 grand), for which I'm not sure even one of 0a's special exemptions exists, but it's something that may find some love from a discerning crowd.

I don't generally like white cars, but an Esprit carries it better than most. I'm currently in deep yearning mode.

Yes, I am an Esprit fan. £18,000 doesn't seem too dear for one but I am no expert on values.

Fantastic. How these are both so elegant yet hench at the same time is superb design, especially that one. Oh, and Louis Balfour - what a legend.

The worry is... did he take the photo for something to do, whilst waiting for the recovery truck?

That is stunning, always fancied one of those. A bit badge heavy on the boot, but that is easily rectified. I reckon these will be worth silly money in a few years

Ah, Esprits. I remember mine fondly, never left me stranded by the side of the road, but was rather high maintenance. I could have spent less on a mistress I suppose, but she wouldn't have accelerated like a rocket, and gone round corners like she was on rails.
Now all I have left are a few photos, and the memory of that 'Why did I sell it' sinking feeling in my stomach as it's new owner disappeared up the road...

Had a proper look at it today it's been overheating, not surprising really as the hose to the radiator is not getting hot at all so either thermostat or water pump gone same amount of work to do either, it needs cam cover gaskets so i will do the lot at the same time when we get some decent weather smile
