Best smoker barges 1-5 large [Vol 13]
Discussion
Was trying to imagine how fab that white Double Six would look in a metallic bronze wrap when I stumbled over this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2001-Jaguar-XJ8-Series-...
Maybe not the top choice of engine, but I think we established that the dealer is pukka a few months back with dme's gorgeous red XJ.

Further updatery. I've resolved to taking an evening a weekend to fettling, such is my desire to have my w201 back on the road.
Subframe out - hopefully I haven't bksed the ABS sensor in the diff housing.
The rusty bits- not bad for its 25th year I must say.
I'll get some H80 and chassis black on order, and there's some zinc rich primer in the shed already, plus a Lemforder rebuild kit. The last bushes I'm after are the rear subframe mounts - LF no longer do them and MB what 75 quid plus VAT, each!!
Of all the Febi', viaco's, Meyle's etc, who do I chance it with??
EDIT: just to say, removing the driver's side front subframe mounting bolt, a load of water ran out and off the end of the bolt. I'm worried there is a water trap in the chassis, does anyone know anything about this?

^^^A few queries about your rear rear sub-frame bushes.
Are you sure you need two? So far as I can see, the bushes are part number A 202 350 34 08, described as "repair kit" and only one is needed, i.e., the part number comprises both parts.
Are you sure they really need changing? The rear bushes don't really take the bashing the front ones do.
Finally, here is a genuine, new kit (I think comprising two bushes) at £55: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Genuine-Subfra... Again the photo appears to confirm that the part number is for both bushes (and the fittings).
I think you owe me one!
Edit: how did you get the subframe out? Have you got a lift and stuff?

745i time!
So, I don't use it that much, and most of the time it's just pottering around town. It shouldn't be too surprising that when I went to start it today it was dead as a dodo, clicking, flashing all warning lights, errors all over the shop.
A quick jump start later and she was back to normal, so I thought I'd best go on a good 30min drive to get some charge back in... And it drove perfectly, no misfiring, ever so slightly judder at idle but only because I was looking out for it.
What's that all about then? The only thing I can think is that it adapted to the old cam sensors missreading as best as possible, and now I have the new ones in, it needed the battery to die to properly reset the adaptions back to standard. It's a bit of a stretch but I have no other explanation! I'll see how it is at the weekend.

Temperamental and extremely unpredictable, other than if it's going to happen it'll be within the first few minutes of starting. So, I don't use it that much, and most of the time it's just pottering around town. IIRC e65Ross replaced the battery in 2015 so it's not an old one.

I've been looking in various places and in an online parts catalogue which I could not guarantee is correct, or that I've read it correctly. I did speak to the local MB parts dept who confirmed I needed 2 of one part number (the 75 quid bushes) and one of another (the bolt/washer kit which includes 2 of everything for about 20 quid, plus VAT). That is my extent of knowledge on the matter.
I have, on initial glance and in fear of losing the opportunity, immediately ordered the kit you linked to on the absolute certainty you know everything about Mercedes Benz and that it of course will fit.
Whether they are needed or not is another question. They don't appear to be as worn (in operation or visually) as the various arm bushes, but since the subframe was coming out to treat rust in appeared the obvious thing to do.
Thank you for your ongoing input.

It does seem to me that the nicest people on PH are here in the bargeist thread. There's never the slightest bit of unpleasantness.
It's thanks only to my schizophrenia that I can exist in this thread. Three of mes are beyond redemption, but the last one is just about ok in small doses.I don't go to any of the meets, though, because under my clothes I'm completely naked!
How about this - as lovely looking as a fresh family pack of Werthers Originals. Great colours and it does look in remarkably good shape.

Something a bit different. 36k miles LWB Daimler Double Six just outside top thread budget. Excellent MOT history, curly corded telephone. It was off the road from 2007 to 2015 so less time to rot too. If this checks out it could be a blinding bargain; I can confirm that nice as the AJV8 is the V12 is better, and not just slightly better either. I'd have one of these over an X308 without thinking for a second.

One problem:
Pics of it as a wedding car are available.
I'm almost tempted to buy that and put the gearbox in my XJ-S. And plop the 3speed back into the Daimler and move it on again.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-Daimler-Double-S...

As gorgeous as that is, the rear end looks a bit saggy - they would have been better replacing rear shocks and springs when they did the front. The fact that they didn't bother polishing the tail pipes gives my teeth a tingle.I could spend hours looking at the photography on this site...
Other than that, I love it.
