So our contenders so far:

I like the original E34 M5 wheels too - they were a clever bit of design, aiding brake cooling while also looking the canine's testes.

Didn't we all agree a while ago that the X300 XJR-6's diamond cut specimens were the undisputed champions?

Perhaps they are, they were a reserve but I discounted them as we'd nominated the XJ220.

See, I think the 'lesser' xjr wheels in the similar design are better looking than the halo XJ220 version...

There was a Biturbo Safrane available too.

Might well breach thread limit, is LHD and some questionable issues but lots of V12 goodness and just check out the individual rear seats:

Am I the only one that doesn't like those wheels? Otherwise....lovely!
I like the wheels but they are too modern and too sporty looking for that car.
Period-correct Alpina wheels with period-correct higher profile tyres would work a treat.

Facelift XJRS wheels are a not dissimilar style

They are all spoke-y these days though aren't they. Quite a lot of the older style wheels just looked like dustbin lids though.

Wibble.

dbdb will be along shortly to tell us everything about it is broken, but if I had 3 bags sitting around I would buy that.

That's just down the road from me, I can go view for someone if necessary.

I might need a short notice wagon soon, I'll pop it on the watch list, just in case. wink

Buy it because you may never get the chance again.

I've not had any personal experience of the XJ40 V12, but I gather they were very heavy on front suspension components and had some odd NVH issues.

Apropos of nothing I suppose, and it’s almost 20 years ago now, but I surveyed the Renault parts warehouse in Swindon before they moved out (the building itself was quite impressive, and still had bodyshells painted in primary colours hanging from the entrance foyer roof structure as sculptures - from memory long out of production 5, 9 (?) and 11 shells) and lurking at the rear of the compound were 6 or 8 unregistered Safranes, all pretty plush with leather etc., but covered in grime and moss and rotting away. No idea why they were there, and I daresay they were too far gone to register, but it did spark a hankering after one for a few years - they seemed very glam compared to the diesel Vectra I was piloting at the time.

I drove one when they were new and wondered where all the power had gone!

That XJ12 has a classic colour combination. I like. Where is dbdb? Not heard from him for a while

£2850 on ebay? 7 bids?
Clearly crystal meth is easily obtainable these days.

Or, to put it another way, £2850 on what's possibly the last good example of a very good 90s saloon. With spotless-looking bodywork and a blemish-free MOT history.

If that was an E34 it'd be 3x as much.

On the subject of wheels - I quite like these.
This would also be far more desirable to me (and a bag cheaper) than the big Renault, but each to their own!

Reserve not met which could mean a very optimistic price tag. Nice though.
