Since JOB's photo went down so well, here is another of a G-Wagen in action, this is the 300 GD that my chum sold last week:

Morning WorldBoss, that’s great. If you want to email me my email address is jack.ob1303@hotmail.co.uk, I don’t know why my PH messages don’t seem to work but I’ve had that problem before.

Re Chatsworth meet, there’s the Devonshire arms at Beeley - big car park and decent pub, could follow it with a barge cruise through some of the Peak District. When suits?
I'd definitely be up for a Chatsworth/Peaks meet up, I'm in Sheffield, so it'd be a nice easy/local one for me.

Fabulous. That GD looked a really great car, the only drawback for me was the cloth interior. What did it tow like with the old OM603 r129sl?

I’d be up for Chatsworth. Some really good roads around the area too. A waft down the A6 and then the Cat and Fiddle is easily in reach.
Cat and Fiddle is 50mph average isn't it? Haven't been up it for years of course.

Thanks, Email sent (don't know if you want to leave it up on the forum, spam bots love an unprotected email). I think you have to turn on PMs in one of the sub menus, it's a pain in the bum.

Hopefully I'll be firing up my Xentry unit and finding my shell loyalty card soon hehe
Second dibs if it doesn't work out! After all who doesn't need two S600s

I'm out of date, but I think they took the average cameras down when it turned out that there was a road that left the C&F after one camera and rejoined it before the next camera, so the average speed cameras were measuring two routes, of different lengths, but with no way to know which car had taken which path.

Another fine mess....

True but they also deploy vans and marked and unmarked cars, sometimes all at the same time, especially if the weather is good and bikers are out in swarms.

Chatsworth is on my doorstep so happy to bring the A8; would bring the Riley but it's being overhauled for a LeJog later in the year.

I remember them going up and thinking it was silly, because of that short cut. Because I thought they were still up, I've not been that way in years.

As a note it's a very good short cut....there's two on there.

I challenge anyone to find a car with more perfect proportions.

Just the right amount of wheel and tyre sidewall too, just shows you don't need massive rims to look good.

Well I was just about to say, if you don't buy that (other than for some major no-no) I too would be up for it. I have absolutely no need or use for it but I genuinely would buy it just because life is far too short.

They are still up, but no idea if they work or have been left as a deterrent. Probably the latter. It never used to bother me anyway: on any late night or early morning sortie, or back in my rallying days when a little, erm, testing was required, you'd just pull into the lay-by between cameras, and let the brakes cool for 60 seconds or so before taking off again. Or dive down the lane past the Stanley Arms towards Wildboarclough and loop back. The C&F is the famous one, but to be honest there are two more challenging roads within a 5 mile radius of the Macclesfield end that aren't covered by camera anyway, one of which was my daily commute for 20+ years...

In any case, it's a windy old road and a point to point average of 50mph in any barge will mean rather uncouth progress. Best to cruise and take in the views.

Are we limited to just saloon cars? I found the rear 3/4 of the E38 a bit "bland"....overall it's a nice design and I'm pleased to say I have had one in the past, they are nice cars, but they are not a patch on the newer models for being a barge IMO. They are handsome old things though.

Well, I tend to prefer estates to saloons but there's something so right about the E38. I can't comment on the driving side of things, I'm an armchair bargist, I've never actually owned one! I like to ogle...

I'd absolutely love an S600 if my mate bought one and I then drove it every so often. As an ownership proposition, however - you know, to actually use on a daily basis without financial suicide - then I'm completely content with my black-pump powered W221. More torque than everything in the range other than the 600, and I've averaged 35mpg over the last 8000 miles or so. It doesn't have quite the drama of the 600, for sure, but equally the borkage potential is considerably lower.

Is it on steel/conventional air instead of ABC?

In terms of engine issues you're probably on parity as the V6 has a few niggles.
