Fabulous. That GD looked a really great car, the only drawback for me was the cloth interior. What did it tow like with the old OM603 r129sl?
He says it was stable because he'd got the nose weight of the trailer about right. Took a while to get upto speed. The hills killed it. Stuck himself in behind trucks and let them pull him along. 15 to 18mpg.

He says his 300 GEL gives 10 to 13mpg towing a covered car trailer with car inside at a GPS verified 65mph.

I guess it's stability that counts more than anything when towing and the G-Wagen offers that in spades. Plus artic cool factor.
I was impressed, we achieved 16mpg dragging the 190E back home. 32mpg over both cars for the day is a more pleasing way of looking at it.

I’d be keen to see the GEL.

Morning WorldBoss, that’s great. If you want to email me my email address is , I don’t know why my PH messages don’t seem to work but I’ve had that problem before.
Thanks, Email sent (don't know if you want to leave it up on the forum, spam bots love an unprotected email). I think you have to turn on PMs in one of the sub menus, it's a pain in the bum.

Hopefully I'll be firing up my Xentry unit and finding my shell loyalty card soon hehe
Please buy it, I've been thinking about it all bl@@dy day!

Joking apart JOB, but if your trader friend has other stock he wants to shift as it's potentially a bit of a dice roll, I suspect this thread will be a rich seam of suckers.

I showed a screen grab of the post to at least 68 people today.

True to the ethos of this thread - a vast engine, luxury, cheap.

The, er, issue and miles gives it that thrill and gamble on survival that a brand new S class for £100k just can’t match.

In other news...

In the unlikely event that any Bargistas are feeling flush and have a spare £4.99 hanging around after feeding and watering their Beasts, the latest edition of BMW Car Magazine (now available in all good Newsagents, International Airports AND even WH Smith's) is a rather good and varied edition.

It's only marred somewhat by a 7-page article about me and my E31 8-Series!
Just this once I will stray from to the dark side (shunning Classic Mercedes or Mercedes Enthusiast) in my plane reading materials next week!. They will wonder why the second print run is required...!
LOL!

Curiously, some odd character bought the entire stock of WH Smith's Lincoln as well! laugh

I bet this goes like absolute stink for such a big car...and nice miles too?
If the JOB-meet ?! goes ahead & you can make it, you’re welcome to have a go in mine & see for yourself.

That one is just on the cusp of the 80k spark-plug change, if not already done, that’ll be around £800 at your local dealer, less if you’re willing to DIY the removal of the inlet manifolds (plugs in the v, not the easiest ever to get at, but simple enough).

Oh, and congrats on the mag. feature!
Ouch! I would definitely go DIY on that then! biggrin

Must be a colossal ride though? I'll look forward to that! biggrin

LOL! Yes... they did a couple of my Z4s in the Summer too.

(excuse the wheels on that one...they are being changed back to some refurbished originals that I have)

That era of z4 now looks incredibly good compared to the next one - and the new one. Shows how right the design was, and how lost BMW are now.

The M and Alpina versions look even better. I’d take the Alpina.

No wonder we didn’t hear from you for a while - prepping to derin standard takes months/years at a time!

Oa,

I have the 3.0Si as well (although I 've taken a taken a deposit on it today) which I've had for nearly 4 years.

They each drive pretty much how you'd expect from the 'on paper' stats....

The Alpina feels a little faster than the 3.0Si, if pushed. It's 300 bhp vs 265 bhp.

The Z4M feels palpably the much faster car! It's 343 bhp. But that Z4M shares the same brakes, steering and essentially same suspension as a CSL...M Diff etc. but in a lighter package even than the CSL ! It is truly an unsung hero for the money at present!

But, it many ways the 3.0Si is actually the nicest to drive because with a 0-60 of 5.6 it isn't exactly 'slow' and it's cheap to run!

I'll be sorry to see it go!

But, I have a Mercedes R230 SL350 on the way that I've bought and that I'm excited about! smile

Yes, agreed. It's ageing very well I think. A mate drove me to/from Silverstone in his a few years ago (3.0 6 speed) and I liked it.

My mate has a Z4 Coupe 3.0Si that he's been to the moon in, with an LPG kit installed for the last 3 or 4 years. He loves it.

I don't really fit in it.
