Taste, broad church, live and let live etc etc. As my posting history attests, I am partial to a Japanese curiosity but fk me boys, a great looking car that ain't. It resembles a pimped Passat, and not in a good way.
Says the LS430 owner! :P
Hmm, that thing's pretty much an LS430 estate, with team dynamics chav rimz.
Crikey, started drinking early tonight!

The stately and haughty magnificence of a Lexus surely cannot be compared to the tawdry tackiness of a pimped wannabe dealer, for whom wind deflectors are an important part of keeping contamination away from the gear in the car.
As good as the 430 is, it's hardly a looker. Impressive as a slab of Japanese triumph, but not much more. The best place is inside. smile

Continuing the JDM theme, this is over thread budget ( £5000? I can't remember, it's been a long week! spin ). But I'm sure any respectable PHer can summon his inner Mike Brewer and get a discount. biggrin

If that's too much, then there's this cheaper, less Wangan Midnight version.

These have the RB25 Skyline engine, so will surprise your local BarryBoys standard, and can be reliably tuned to 400bhp with very minor tinkering. thumbup

That way you might pass 'Approval and Final Inspection' more easily? wink

Now that my kids have all left home I wouldn't even need to play that card but there is something superfluously luxurious about their whole appearance and aura that I might find hard to convince my 'Judge', in my summing up statements, of the rationale...indeed absolute inescapable logic...that I have done over the years with metal from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. judge (The Emoticon is smiling, so that's not quite correct!)

I'm also of the generation when new Jags had such a woeful reputation for reliability etc. that it's difficult to put that aside.

BUT (!)...and I know nothing about what engine or performance to expect...My God! This thing is beautiful and I'm tempted by it!

As an ex-Lancia owner, I used to delight in the saying: "Lancia, the company that has never built a bad looking car."

Now, I'm not so sure.

Derin, we've had that eBay Jag about four times. Curious it's not sold if it's a good one....

I've seen that car in person on a sunny day and that colour looks absolutely fantastic. Sadly it's got the ok but ever so slightly inadequate for the job 3.2 litre engine.

It's a beautiful coloured thing, can't help but think you could do a magnificent swap with the engine from the R on that for a homebrew super 8 effect.

That'd be fantastic - big tyres, weird looks, lovely velour interior, 400hp as you boost off to the horizon.

280bhp as standard, but we all know that really means 300bhp at least, as every Japanese manufacturer bullsted outputs during the "Gentleman's agreement" era. wink

These and Toyota Crown's make superb sleepers as they look like boring taxis/ grandad cars, but are quicker than expected as standard and have tech like 4 wheel steering/ Tiptronic gearboxes / 4wd/LSD's etc, which your average Chav wouldn't expect.
And that's before you venture into the batst mental world of JDM tuning and modding.

Ah! Could you school me in Jags (briefly)? teacher

Because if that W124 Saloon doesn't come through for some reason (I got a message back from the vendor today to say that he's putting up full details tonight), I might be tempted by that Jag!

I'm already querying my logic with that W124 as the price moves northwards and questions about wiring-loom and oil leaks remain unanswered.

I'm seriously not bothered about performance from the Jag because I've got other cars that have performance beyond which I can cope with.

However you mentioned a possible Chesterfield meet, so I would like to stick me hand in the air and say yes please for a meet in that area smile

There's very little to worry about on a 308 that you wouldn't ordinarily check.

Rust is the biggest issue imho, so a clean MOT and a good nosey underneath is essential, otherwise it's the usual - make sure the gearbox is good and smooth, good suspension etc.

I think that one from Tasker & Lacy looks fabulous.

While we're talking about Jags, this XJ40 4.0 Sovereign has just popped up htis evening on AT. If it wasn't too far away I'd have it: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Horrible wheels, but a decent-sounding owner and an afternoons tinkering away from lovely imho.

Reassuringly gravelled drive too.....if we are to go back to judging a car on its owner’s garden alone!

Thanks Krikkit. You are swaying me.

If nothing else there's a value in seeing the 'Final Arbiter's' face as a I roll in in that unexpectedly....laugh

Would it qualify for classic insurance? scratchchin (may be a stumbling point)

Also nice and hugely less money but not as pretty to my eye plus I'm not interested in sob-stories from retired duffers!

Hang on a sec....
