RE: McLaren 600LT revealed

I don't think you need to take it so literally. I'd say its more about the idealogy or concept than getting your measuring tape out. The 570s Spider doesn't have 8 legs either.
But it does have an adaptation of the spider roof concept. Maybe they should have called this car the SLT, for Slightly Longer Tail. Then then can do another version later on called the MLT (Much Longer Tail).I know I'm being stupidly picky and it's clearly just a marketing gimmick to hark back to the F1, but it does strike me as a bit daft when the real long tail cars had an extra couple of feet while this has three inches. Years ago I had a Skoda Fabia vRS which had slightly extended bumpers to make it the minimum length required for WRC homologation, so I guess that was an LT too.
Kudos for posting DIN weights in the update.
As for LT. If the car actually was 2 feet longer, PH surely would complain too 'is that really necessary, hard to park as is', 'doesn't that weigh more', 'does it really need such extreme aerodynamics, it's not a real racecar', 'it's just empty space in there, why not make a big trunk for my shoe collection', etc.

So: still don't get the LT designation, can someone explain? Because is isn't? It's.....tail?
It is because the rear/tail of the car is longer. Just because it isn't 6 feet longer, doesn't mean it isn't longer.I doubt that many would be too happy about their small sports car which is still, ultimately, designed to be a usable car if it were 2-3 feet longer.

Come on McLaren, give us something different and maybe even at a lower price point!
They did, 540c was £40k down and 1k/month for 8 years or something. A large amount of UK family's could afford that.Ahonen said:

Mac bashing is quite prevalent on PH. Almost exclusively perpetuated by those who have little or no experience of the marque.
Yes LT has become a badge. It marks the peak road legal performance variant of any given model range. It that regard it is little different from RS on top end 911s.
Why that irks so I don’t understand.

Same engine same tub similar styling hardly any differance in performance from rest of cars they have made getting boring tbh
Please stop posting such ignorant drivel. The engine is vastly different, the tub is completely redesigned (it's 2 generations on) and the styling is "similar" but that's just brand progression. Like the 911. Like just about any Ferrari, Aston, Lotus, BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc.p1stonhead said:

Of course they could, just people don't want to. Combined income of 80k p.a for 2 adults in their 30s with 2 children could pretty easily afford one providing they'd paid a mortgage for 10+ years and had equity. Bearing in mind when they've paid the car off after 8 years it'll still be worth 60k plus its not even a terrible move financially. But again, most people are interested and don't want to.
I am an advocate of consumer credit but that scenario you outline sounds absolutely mental.Brooking10 said:

Not irked in the slightest, just bemused (and mildly amused) by the daft marketing department. No agenda. I don't have anywhere near enough knowledge of or interest in the McLaren range to 'bash' it. I have friends (pro drivers) who regularly drive the road cars for track work, but that's the only tenuous connection I have.Mac bashing is quite prevalent on PH. If they hadn’t called it LT and instead something like RS or Track or Bruce would you have taken to the keyboard ?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
