If it had been tidied up a bit before sale I'm sure it would increase the appeal and value, and wouldn't have been too much work!

Clearly a divisive car.

To all the BMW, Audi and Merc owners, who rave about the quality of the plastics on their dash, bose bluetooth ICE and importance of lane assist, it's terrible. It probably doesn't have traction control - its not safe!

To some others - it has the spirit of motoring enthusiasm and purity of purpose (that being FUN silly )

Love it. Top shedding!

As others have said - lose the banger rally elements and this is an interesting little toy.

My first car was a 205 with the twin-choke 1360 in it and I fondly remember a race I had with a lad in his AX GT. Nowhere near public roads, of course. The GT was a cool little thing - cooler to look at than my Roland Garros, arguably.

My brother's first car was an AX 1.0 and, as he left it late to learn, I was over 21 and could teach him to drive. On the odd occasion I had to take over, it was a fun little thing.

So 106 GTi lump in boggo AX sounds like win-win to me.

That's missing the point though?

That's given me a laugh.

Tidy it up to octogenarian-spec and have a blast surprising people off the lights.

So regardless of those who do and don't like it, it's now sold anyway, happy days.... albeit via another listing.

Superb.

If you claim to like cars and don't like this, you have no soul.

I'm in two minds about this. I love small French cars of this era, having run a 205 GTI for 12 years but the AXGT and GTI are an endangered species so part of me is sad its been butchered.

..but I agree, its a lot more fun than the usual bland VAG type offerings served up by SOTY!!! I expect one of those will be along next week to redress the balance!

Very appealing in a few different ways, but was anybody else slightly concerned about the reference to having no anti roll bar and the effects of the lack of an ARB mentioned in the advert? Fair enough AX GT parts must be like rocking horse poo but enough of a question mark against it for me to want to keep my cash in the tin.

This is fantastic. Surprised by the negativity in replies. Shame it's sold already.

- the exhaust can be taken off if necessary, its held on with bolts. It's also not hot and you can hold it with your hand (which I demonstrated with great satisfaction to the Copper in Fort William who stopped to discuss it's legality with me)

Ah, you've also suffered at the local over-interested traffic copper up here!

I like the concept (I have an AX that a part of me would love to Q car), and it looks well put together.
If it were my long termer, I'd lose the exhaust extension and tidy up the exterior, but I appreciate why it is as it is!
Put together by someone with a sense of humour, who appreciates just how much fun driving an AX can be in terms of driver feedback. You can take your power steering, and shove it! smile

I bloody love it. It looks like a complete piece of st, but its got all the right oily bits and lack of weight to make it a riot and I'd imagine the looks on peoples faces when you were keeping up, or beating their car in something that looks like it should be scrapped immediately would be worth its weight in gold biggrin

Having owned both an AX GT500 and a 106 GTI (a long time ago mind) this is really pulling at my heart strings!

Could it be transformed into a fun Sunday toy with fresh paint and some period French alloys?Possibly! I hope someone returns it to glory.
