Ah not to worry. Have spoken to Wheels In Motion and shown them the alignment, they said it was horrendous haha.
I'll have to see about heading down there one day to get the handling sorted.

Ah yeah you may aswell if it's a weekend / track car. Reap the benefits of the sticky rubber!
I really would like some though! Maybe one day eh?!
If you end up doing the 2 car thing then do it, is all I will say and buy a trickle charger for the 5.

I ended up selling up end of last year, I do miss mine a little. But yes if you get a chance go for it.

But at bare minimum go get it properly aligned, it will be worth it from your new tyres point of view and also your enjoyment.

Might be worth looking at the Kumhos which I know Nick @ MOT Motorsport regularly suggested to people.

Can't really comment on any other others mentioned but I have the Michelin PS4 on the E46 330ci for 18months and have been happy enough reorder a few months ago.

The only thing I would say about them is they give of a reasonable amount of road noise compared to the mixed part worns it came in on.

What's a trickle charger may I ask?

Ah what did you get as a replacement? If anything?

Yeah I will do, sure needs it that's for sure! She's not handling too great currently.

I have had a look at them but they get mixed reviews. Lot sof issues with balancing of them. I want something I can be confident in buying and those Kumhos don't fill me with confidence I'm afraid.

Keep the charge on the battery topped up mine was okay(ish), but if not used regularly it would get harder to start.

Nothing, my 6GC which was alongside it just became "easier", stopped using the 5 (as bad as it sounds) then we were house buying so I exchanged my MX5 for me doing up the garage in the new house (most of it was spent on the garage door).

Would I do the 2 car thing again, probably not, but I am glad I did it. I always found I was in the wrong car at the wrong time. So eventually "accepted" the shortcomings of living with one car. Not much regret truthfully, and as traffic has increased round here thank god I have my auto ZF box.

I can't see a logic to the comparison in the first place.
Should be PS4 to SportContact5, if SC5 isn't available in that size then just get the PS4.

PC6 replaced the SC5 in smaller sizes and PC5.

The MPS4 is actually fairly close to the PC6, they just have different naming conventions.

Premium contact 6 is a replacement for the SC5 according to Continental.
Combination of the SC5 and PC5

Small charger to keep the battery up between uses, almost anything will do as long as it is safe to leave on 24/7, but CTEK is a common go to brand. You can get them for not a lot, but I paid £80 for mine to get something a bit more powerful so it will put enough to start the car from flat overnight. For when you forget! And or have two cars that arnt really on the road.

I've used them for years and they were always good, then last summer they supplied me a faulty tyre.

It was proved that the tyre was at fault... yet they wouldn't refund me or replace like with like, and became very hostile when i challenged them under the SOGA. No care whatsoever at leaving their repeat customer some £200 out of pocket and running a car on a faulty tyre.

They were intent on washing their hands of me, and tried to push me onto the tyre manufacturer, despite them supplying the item.

In the end i had to get my credit card company involved to claim the money back. Fortunately I got all my money back.

That's not to say they're bad at alignment, but the customer services side of things broke down very quickly indeed when they supplied a faulty product and left me high and dry.

So yeah, just be warned...and if you do use them, use a credit card!!!

I have the same MX-5 as yours and running the PS4's with MeisterR's. The tyres are exceptional for the road, the grip on dry and wet is very good. I don't have any experience with the Conti's but I would definitely suggest to go with the PS4's as having used them for the last 5k miles I can say with confidence that they compliment the car's behaviour really well! smile

How quickly did the tyre develop a fault?

It's normal in the tyre industry to refer faults back to manufacturers. It's not the best system for customers, but it protects retailers from the obvious "I've driven 7,000 miles on a tyre, hit a pothole and I'm claiming it was a tyre fault" scenario which is all too common still.

As soon as it was fitted! Noticed it a few hundred yards down the road from WiM when i left!

It wasn't laid correctly so the tyre was pulling to one side, it was swapped across the axle by the fitter on the same day and the car pulled the other way.

Geo was all spot on, and the suspension was all A1, this was all checked by them too to rule it out.

They admitted the tyre (hankook) was the issue, then became a lot less helpful very quickly. The "best" they would do for me was fit a set of Avons at my further cost (having already paid for the duff hankook/s)...unsurprisingly i told them to foxtrot oscar.

In the end I got my money back under the consumer credit act, and had a set of PS4 fitted elsewhere. Hey presto, no more scary pulling (you could change lanes on a carriageway very quickly if you didn't hold the wheel at 2 o clock.

Pirellis are an adequate tyre when warm. Below 10C the grip drops off and below about 7C the grip just evaporates. They are listed as a summer tyre for a very good reason!
Michelin PS4 are also listed as summer tyres and performed very well in winter conditions, especially on a car that was RWD. So you can see why that'd be surprising. Perhaps the same can't be said of the Pirellis, but I knew what I was buying and am prepared for taking it easy in the winter.
