I remember F1 reaching 370 KM/H at hockenheim in the late 90s. Pretty sure it could have done the same thing on the ring.
Probably not with the amount of downforce they'd want to run at the Ring. Old Hockenheim was mostly straights with a handful of corners, so they ran the absolute minimum downforce to gain straightline speed. The Ring is mostly corners with just one big straight.

The were hitting over 370 KM/H in 2016. In Evo spec with more active aero and more power they might see 400 KM/H down the main straight on the north loop.

Apparently the limiting factor on the 919 Evo is the front axle. Any faster and the bearings/motors can't cope.

It is there, to answer the former, as for the latter... that'd be one hell of a sight to see.

I hope the nominated driver tries - well that’s what the car is all about. Maybe beat that F1 time up the hill.

Either way super Sunday is going to be great.

And remember that gods like Vic Elford , Brian Redman and Jo Siffert (and Helmut Marko ) were doing 230mph down the Mulsanne in 1970/71 in the 5 litre Flat 12 917 . Not too shabby for the days when a 0-60 under 10 was pretty damn quick !
With their feet in front of the front axle!
And when David Piper ( I think, or it may have been Vic Elford?) said they handled like 10 lbs of horsest in a 5 lbs paper bag.

I got David Piper's autograph at Goodwood some years ago, when the had a collection of 917s present. I asked about the fearsome handling but he said that was only the early models, by the time they got the handling sorted they were a "lovely thing to drive".

A 917 in the metal is smaller than you imagine.
