Funnily enough, one of these came up for sale on Gumtree nearby and looked to be a huge bargain so I went for a look.
Very impressive car, obvious Honda build quality, surprisingly fast (one of those cars that you clog it and suddenly realise you're on your way to three-figure speeds.)
Lots of tech / very high spec such as air-con seats.
Sadly, the battery had been allowed to go flat and I think it had p*ssed off a few of the ECUs as there were various warning lights, including a check engine one, although after my 'enthusiastic' test drive, I think the cats had cycled and the light had gone off.
In short, I think those who are hatin' on this have probably never driven a Honda, let alone one of these! Sweet engine, beautifully built, obscure. (Also costly to run, but you picks your battles, eh?)

I've had 2x C6s; both diesel. Very high maintenance cars- I did most of the work myself, but I put more time into maintenance/repairs on those car's than any other I've had in my PH garage. Bushes wore fast; many sensors went... No joke it is cheaper to maintain my DB9. What I learned is, for the same level of quiet in the car and ride comfort, buy a v8 Lexus... which I just nearly did, but splurged on a Maserati QP. Point being for a £5k. budget, you can get an exceptional v8 Lexus of the same vintage as the C6 with a mark Levinson stereo etc. I'd have the Lexus over the Honda legend too...Hmm: this or a C6? Don't fancy any other luxobarge as much as these two. But try finding a petrol C6.

Funny to see the Phaeton being mentioned so much here, it's a class bigger than the Legend and considerably more expensive to run. I absolutely love them but the thought of having to pay Volkswagen to keep one running brings me out in cold sweats. I love them, and have looked at classifieds adverts for them many times, but could never commit to one when my wallet was on the line.
On the other hand, I test drove one of these Legends years ago and was really impressed. Fabulous interior, power and smooth (impressively so for a V6) and a tidy handler. If they had decided on a three litre diesel instead of a petrol V6, they would have sold many more in the UK. It's a car that impressed with it's merits rather than it's badge, and I say that as a house with two Honda cars on the drive.

Pretty much at the peak of automotive engineering excellence from Japan. I have a couple of Japanese cars from this period & everything still works perfectly (including my 18 year old Hybrid Insight). Everything else is just better at emptying your wallet, leaving you stranded or outdated by already useless dated tech.

I have watched these depreciate over the years and despite being a lot of car for £6k I am still not convinced it is worth even that. It will be hard to move on should you wish to and you are stuck with £555 road tax.
I would be happy to write off £3k on this but not £6k. With so few of these sold, parts will often be Honda OEM only as I found with my Honda Accord coupe 3.0V6 I ran for 3 years a while back. This means pricey.

indeed, things like suspension parts and such can be eye opening - and they are mostly honda main dealer parts.Most comments here seem to be from the usual German fanboys who have no idea on the car itself, its far better screwed together than most German cars of that era.
i was close to buying one actually but chickened out in the end after discussions with some folk about this car due to any unforseen nasty shocks that could prop up - re maintenance.
I went and bought similar gas guzzling Legacy which has served me well - 3 clean MOTs in a row and no nasty maintenance bills.
Having said that If I were to get something like this again I would opt to waft around in a Lexus LS460 - which is a big step up in comfort and class for slightly more outlay.
