RE: Renault Sport Megane 280 vs. Hyundai i30 N
Discussion
I'm currently in a position of getting rid of my Honda Type R (FK2, the one they hardly made any of, and nobody likes but i love) and am in the market for a new, better Hot Hatch.
I don't want another Type R, the FK8. As brilliant as it is, and it is. The FK8 is not a world away from my FK2. Same engine. Same gearbox. And even tho Honda are shouting about how fast it is, its only 0.5 seconds quicker around Silverstone than my previous model. Yes, thats true stat fans. Honda don't really like to dwell on that because #marketinggoals
Anyway, i really like the look of the new Megane. It looks superb and It's got that something about it i cant explain, heritage, engineering talent, etc... and i cat put my finger on it.
Thing is we seem to have reached a pinnacle of current hot hatch excellence and i feel the change from FK2 to Megane (or to N car) would be disappointing.
Comparing the FK2 to new FK8 for example i came away thinking, Meh. Not worth changing. But its time to change. And i want to change.
I also really like bright coloured paint.

I have a feeling the design of the centre console isn't going to rank very highly in the list of priorities of your typical Megane RS buyer. Not that I can see anything wrong with it. Either way I am sure it won't spoil the driving experience.
I always have my dash lighting turned down to its most dimmed setting I hate bright interior lighting on cars when your driving at night. It doesn’t have that crap
Mood lighting tosh anywhere does it ?
Can it be turned off without turning the audio off ? It would have to be very dim for me to want a screen like that as most of my pleasure driving is at night, my Saab has a screen half the size of that and it’s to bright even on full dim but luckily it has a night panel button that turns it all off
Whilst still being in operation, one of the pleasures of my 250 is that it doesn’t have a sat nav screen at all its lovely,

In the Audi there is a button to turn it off completely and hoping the Meg would have the same function. It doesn’t have that crap

My other half is a bit of an standard i30 fan so as we passed the Colchester dealer a couple of weekends ago she asked if we could pop in.
I was mooching around bored until I saw a "Blu-Tac Blue" i30N there. It look amazing in that colour and although I thought the interior looked a bit bland I would have one tomorrow if funds allowed ( I wonder how much a Mk2 SSS would make in part ex.!!) Well done Hyundai.
