I don't think the GLC63 has any current available competition at the moment. Most of the X5 and larger vehicles are exactly that too large to fit into this category after all this is a C63 on stilts with a coupe cutout.

Really it needs comparing to the X4 and Q5 (although they probably have something more GLC Coupe and X4 in the works, I believe the Q6?), neither of which have the type of firepower currently available in this.

Even so I just do not see the point of these "cars". Having only seen one GLE in the wild it completely blocked any view of anything it was just so large.

As for this smaller brother costing 10k less than a 100k. What a joke.

Closest is surely the Stelvio Quadrifoglio?

There's a few conventional two-box SUVs like the Stelvio with similar performance (the Alfa, the Porsche Macan, the RS Q5 is on its way) but not really any of these weird "SUV coupe" things. I suppose the Alfa is slightly sleeker than the Audi but it's pretty similar in profile to the Porsche and nothing like as extreme as this thing and the X4.

And my secret is what exactly?
jingoistic, xenophobic and usually middle-class types who will doubtless have a chip on their shoulder about who should be allowed to enjoy life the way they'd like, set off predictably with a platitude of cliches that barely contain their sneering classism and maybe even racism where possible..
For the record, I don't like the GLC particularly and I don't even really like SUVs in general but I can totally understand the appeal of a car like this is not reduced to the people you seem to think they'd appeal to.

So - I live in the UK although I'm not from here, I'm black and I'm in the music industry and although I'm neither a rapper nor am I a drug dealer, I've interacted with many in this country through music. Middle class? Maybe now I am, but I certainly wasn't born in that; technically I'm 2nd generation immigrant.

Remind me again how you presume I fit the cliches? I'll wait.

Furthermore, if you actually know any real, 'big-time' drug dealers, you'd know the biggest, cleverest and most successful ones never show off or try to attract attention and wouldn't be seen dead or alive in something like this; they're more likely to roll in an old VW Passat, or maybe an old Audi A6 or something equally nondescript - obviously it's not your world so we'll leave that there. As for rappers? In the UK at least, right now they're all about G-Wagens, i8's and Panameras, not GLCs - and once again, you evidently won't know that either.

I stand by what I've said in my previous comment and put my cards on the table as I have no secrets to 'keep safe' but evidently we can't say the same about you...

I have the SUV on order. Due to be built in the second 10 days of September.

Currently have an A45 AMG, but wanted something with a bigger boot and a tow bar for bike carrying.

Living in Switzerland, my OH insists on 4wd and doesn't like estates, so a C63 was out. Neither of us wanted to go any bigger either, so the GLE class were ruled out. The only real competition was a Macan Turbo PP and the Alfa Stelvio. The Macan felt a bit too sensible and the price and residuals on the Alfa couldn't compete with the deal MB were offering (via a deal we have through work, I got c. 25% off list, Alfa offer 9%). And neither of them have that V8, which strangely felt more responsive in this than it did in the AMG GT I test drove when it first came out.

The only frustration is that it hasn't got the latest ICE/tech that e.g. the E and A Class have.

I have no secrets either my friend, but I do not identify with any of the things you threw over the wall.

The comment about rappers and drug-dealers was firmly tongue-in-cheek, and it was a stereotype, I accept that. I guess the irony passed you by.

Wow. You guess all of that from someone choosing to drive a car you have an irrational dislike for, adopting comedic levels of brainless stereotyping and immense irony in the process??
Not so much have an irrational dislike for - I have a perfectly rational dislike for them.

It's to do with staggeringly bad levels of aggressive driving, usually with bugger all consideration for other road users under the mistaken belief that they're invincible, together with (at a time when we can confidently say the environment and the climate are comprehensively fked) ridiculous levels of pollution.

I see that Maserati are now pushing Levante via PCP on the radio.

Maybe the market is getting towards saturation?

Next logical step is to go up in size. I can see the likes of a Suburban/Yukon/Tahoe selling quite well in the UK.
