If you are wondering what happened to the 75k Lotus Carlton after it went off Ebay my Son bought it and it is being serviced and detailed including the seats and interior and i will have it out for the weekend hopefully.
May be for sale again shortly in a far better state than it was at 75k, for a far more sensible 55k.
I agree those of you comparing it to more modern quick stuff are missing the point of a classic,we have an e39 m5 which is just about as much fun as you can have in a rwd manual and love driving it hard,But the Lotus would never get treated the same because it is a rare classic and as someone else said a far better proposition than a mot mileage car.
For now i just got a minty Alfa 146ti and that is going to get well tested for a few days,153bhp through the front wheels should be fun.

I I guess it's down to who owns what. Was Lotus owned by GM in the days of the Carlton?
The gearbox, 6 speed, is from a Corvette, so yes I guess so.

The throw is quite long and the clutch is super heavy which makes extended driving in reallly bad traffic a pain, literally a pain in your left leg.

S
'They are all like that sir'. We looked after a few in the early 90's. Customer would complain gearbox was noisy, ZF would send new box out on pallet. New gearbox noisier than the one it was replacing.
They aren't all like that - can drive mine all day in traffic and my left leg is fine biggrin

No it's not been converted to an Auto

I'm surprised even at that price - but as I've stated in many places asking prices are rarely selling prices

I think you are missing out on having some fun in it

Mine this year (actually first pic is 2015 - but it was a good one of it on the Hill)

Amazing. I wasn't aware you had a Lotus Carlton until reading your "username" post in The Lounge.

Love it.

And to the chap who's son bought the one mentioned in the article - great stuff! Glad to hear its being sorted, and that the price asked was horribly speculative!

Yeah 18 years owned and still being used as it was intended to be used

I get surprisingly little flack for it too biggrin

I wouldn't know why you'd ever get any flack for it in the first place? Any car that is "so fast the police tried to ban it" is amazingly cool.

I still miss my old Carlton Estate... one day, I will have another one, and it will get a v8 conversion. Because I don't think I'll be in a position to own a Lotus Carlton any time soon!
