Is there any basis in engineering that says a 3 cyl is less robust, after all its near enough the same capacity, isnt it mainly down to how the engine is constructed and cooled and not the number of cylinders ?
Is there a Ford backed, warranty friendly, Mountune power uprate for the 3 cylinder ST engine?blade7 said:

Doesnt seem to be as yet, based on that video it looks like it doesnt need one, can guarantee it will get tuned like every other engine, should have some scope there as it seems to be more based on capacity than cylinders, still a very new model. The Mountune kit came fairly soon after the MK7's release.
I've watched a few Carwow group test videos with that guy driving, and he conveniently beats the competition on camera. Much broker commission on the new ST perhaps...blade7 said:

Just looks horrible.
The previous incarnation wasn’t bad but this just looks like they’ve softened and dulled everything down.
In an age of 350-400bhp hot hatches if 200 is the best they can manage its pretty disappointing. Also WAY too big. It’s supposed to be a hatchback not a barge.
The new one Is 87 mm longer - that's 3.4 inches in old money, not exactly a barge. The previous incarnation wasn’t bad but this just looks like they’ve softened and dulled everything down.

Actually I was just thinking the opposite to you. Its a sign of the times that you can now buy a 3 cylinder 1.5L Fiesta which is as fast as an Escort RS Cosworth was back in the day.
The fact this car has an optional LSD is pretty amazing I think. My 2014 Focus ST really needs one with the power it has. Yet a car 50bhp down can come with one from the factory.
As for interior it certainly looks nice. Having come from an 11 year old 3 series Ford interiors are pretty cheap feeling. It's no more sophisticated as far as ICE either. Adding a pokey LCD screen and using M$ Sync was a very poor choice.
I heard they went to Blackberry ICE 2015 onwards which has a much bigger screen and more intuitive menus.
Note to those who purchase one. Get some kind of clear bra on it ASAP (front bumper and bonnet). Ford paint is the thinnest veneer I've ever seen. My ST is peppered with chips on the bumper and bonnet from motorway driving in the summer. Not even winter with gritters around. Clear coat on the front bumper is already peeling too.

Or, its a bit more powerful and bit faster ?
Carwow ran a 16.1 with the mk7 which is awful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mhk_emAX50k
other people are getting between 14.8 and very low 15's

Same power, better chassis and tyres, plus an optional slipper....
from a rolling start the new one drove away like it had a huge power advantage though, tyres, lsd and chassis won't have made a difference as the mk7 won't have experienced any traction issuesOrdered a new ST2 arrives in October and I can't wait. I took it out for two test drives to make sure and it was an absolute hoot. I got the performance pack fitted and you can tell it's there, corners just seem to "flow"
Practical for the size, should be able to fit all the Le Mans gear in it no problems so really looking forward to getting it

Just had the recall notice for my 2013 ST2. rang them up and they want the car for THREE DAYS. I can't spare the car for 3 days. Offered a courtesy car but "I would have to arrange to insure it comprehensively for that time".
Sorry, Ford - never again will I buy one of your cars. I may well just trade it in.

Is this for the cylinder head cracking issue? That looks pretty bad and so I've not got high hopes for the new ST given all the issues they're having with coolant pipe and head gasket failures on their other engines. I'd bet any money they're rushing projects through their engineering processes too fast to try to keep ahead of the competition.Sorry, Ford - never again will I buy one of your cars.
