RE: Citroen Saxo VTS: Spotted
Discussion
A mate of mine bought one new back in late 1999 early 2000, in the same blue colour.
I have good memories of the saxo.
It was amazing the saxo lasted as long as it did as it was driven quite hard pretty much every mile it ever did.
I still remember the day he traded in a red E reg XR2 for the Saxo.

They weren't far behind on a track either
Which track is that from ?They also did good times at Anglesey when EVO tested them
I think the 306GTI-6 got pipped by the 106 when CAR magazine tested them on track as well
I bought a Poseidon Blue VTS brand new back in 97'. The little thing was like a roller skate, I hammered it from day one (owned it 8 months) and it loosened up very very quickly fair play. Just checked it's MOT history online and it seemed to have survived nearly 13yrs and covered approx 115k mls at it's last test in 2009.
Good fun little hatch...

Not sure this article quite hits the mark. Is the VTS really 'forgotten'? Most car people I know are well aware of how capable they are. Also, "...today's boy racers have moved on to pastures new, if they exist at all..." I think the modified car/boy racer world is healthier than it's been for a very long time. Having ventured to the old car haunt a couple of times recently out of nostalgia, I was amazed at how busy it was. The cars have changed (mostly very new and very fast, rather than older with big body kits), but the 'scene' is bigger than it's been for a long time. It sometimes feels as if sentiment or creating a narrative is more important than reality in a lot of motoring journalism these days.

For reasons other than nostalgia why else do people go mad over MK2 Escorts?
Nostalgia plays a big part but, if you watch any form of rallying, the Escort can still be mighty competitive. Low weight and relatively forgiving handling characteristics, when coupled to a modern engine and gearbox make for a very potent combination.Edited by Jon_S_Rally on Monday 16th July 11:14
These were renowned for the lift off oversteer which I experienced a few times during my 6 years of ownership. Probably sunk the best part of £10k into mine on cams, Quaife diff, 4 pots, bilsteins etc. Only made 150bhp but weighed around 900kg so was an absolute riot on track. I sold mine to buy an M3 CSL yet still reminisce about the VTS. LY51 UEW where are you now?
