It's a really odd size and looks really squashed IMO.I don't know if it's because we know it's linked with the Z4 and they're not traditionally particularly big but I would've expected Toyotoa to go GT-R/NSX sized with a Supra and chase them rather than well, a small sports car with 300-400bhp.

but there's not a glut of affordable performance-oriented coupes in many countries at the moment
and there's little that prevents great minds, in one of the world's great motoring nations, from turning out great coupe motors for the masses; or, let's say, the better-off masses
and for those who disagree...
this may all become far more exciting in future, if there could be ways that technology -- say, something similar to 3D printing -- might allow global communities to engineer and source for cars which are then "constructed" locally
Was chatting to the marketing people at festival of speed about this, they seemed to think the road version will have rear seats for a a lower insurance group, but it looks even smaller in back than gt86 in real life, and above says 2 seats only. They were saying how much of a better sports car than the gt86 this will be, strange they almost bad mouthed the gt86 as not a real sports car compared to this? Does look nice but I think it's far smaller than old supra so not really a like for like car. Think this will be more a cayman rival, if anything. Sound like costs have been cut to meet price point meaning it might be fairly heavy (read has all the chassis stiffness required for a z4 convertible plus weight of roof.

MKV will be little bit of shorter and taller than MKIV, so it will be a 2 seater quite surely. It will be a quite light car for modern standards about 1500 kilos. So about same than boxster/Cayman and between MIV na and turbo variants weights. However, it will be a much more affordable than MKIV was so that is a good thing.It will have a few issues, namely it is not as exclusive as older one and it doesn't have that high tuning potential. Well, it isn't that much smaller, if any. Only shorter but wider and taller. MKIV looks like a big car but it is same size as gt86, if not little wider.G
So I read in other interviews with him that apart from the shared platform and engine, it's all Toyota... but it now seems it's pretty much all BMW just some different body panels.
He says here that it MUST have a turbo charged inline six, and that it has 50:50 weight distribution. Yet in other interviews he's saying that there'll be a 4 cylinder, with better weight distribution. Better than 50:50?

Which is easier to start rotating, and then stop rotating? A barbell with 25kg weights on each end, or one with the weights right in the middle?Both have a 50:50 weight distribution, but they behave very differently.

The concept car was spectacular. A piece of batmobil and the rear reminded me a bit of the TVR Sagaris.
This is a another boring and ugly Japanese design horror.
I quite like the understated Japanese aesthetic sensibility. It's the more recent stuff like the 'pinched face' Lexus front end or the current Civic Type R leaves me scratching my head. The beauty of the plainer designs is that tuners can go as mild or wild on them as they like - most Japanese sports cars are more or less intended to be modded and tuned as they get older and I think the basic design language reflects that. Unless the camouflage miraculously hides something different I think the car is downright ugly.

Indeed. But if the I6 already has 50:50 distribution, then they're either mounting the lighter 4 cylinder further forward, or adding weight to the rear. Or we could just be being fed a load of crap.Both have a 50:50 weight distribution, but they behave very differently.
