That's it, I am no longer defending Cyclists!

That makes no sense. One group keeps saying there are morons on both sides of the fence. The other keeps saying all of the cyclists are all the same and they are all morons. Anyone reasonable would identify which group keeps getting it wrong.
And that's without even mentioning that most cyclists are actually on both sides of the fence, particularly on PH, as they are also driver whereas there seems to be fewer car only users who understand cycling, which would be OK as they don't practice it, but only if they didn't form their opinion/prejudice based on a very partial experience/perspective. There is genuine anti-cycling hatred in this country and it's mainly because of the growth of cycling which causes minor but acceptable inconvenience but also reduces the amount of cars on the road, which surely is a positive.
Anti-cycling hatred??? A hatred of those who are anti-cycling? This particular topic does seem to be a contentious one. I’ve certainly never had any posts deleted before this thread due to causing offence, no matter how offensive (and there were quite a few). I’m surprised the cycling fraternity appear to be such hypersensitive snowflakes that they get so easily irritated by quite reasonable requests from drivers to keep left, not to hold up traffic unnecessarily, not to cycle in tandem on busy roads and to use cycle lanes when available, etc etc. It all appears to be a bit “me, me, me, my right is to use the roads”. I’m sure they’ll be another one along shortly to present the other side of the argument.
Absolutely. All of your "reasonable" requests appear rather biased in favour of motorists saying "me, me, me, my right is to use the roads" (see the hypocrisy there?) whilst avoiding acknowledging or discussing the reasons cyclists don't always do those things you want, even when the reason has been explained.nickfrog said:

Exactly. Who is biased ?
It is laughable that so many who don't cycle at all think that the people who cycle and drive are the biased lot. It's all a bit Trump-like in it's logic!
I'm out for a drive, I'm sure it'll all have settled down later.............

There's some useful information in the highway code for cyclists. There is a lot of recent "advice" I hear much of which is bks quite frankly, riding in the middle of the lane for example will just inflame a situation.
Highway code Rule 160
Once moving you should
- keep well to the left, unless road signs or markings indicate otherwise. The exceptions are when you want to overtake, turn right or pass parked vehicles or pedestrians in the road
- keep well to the left on right-hand bends. This will improve your view of the road and help avoid the risk of colliding with traffic approaching from the opposite direction
Highway code Rule 169
Do not hold up a long queue of traffic, especially if you are driving a large or slow-moving vehicle. Check your mirrors frequently, and if necessary, pull in where it is safe and let traffic pass.
Since riding two abreast should be treated as overtaking
Highway code Rule 166
DO NOT overtake if there is any doubt, or where you cannot see far enough ahead to be sure it is safe. For example, when you are approaching
- a corner or bend
- a hump bridge
- the brow of a hill.
End of discussion.
Er, why do you think this only applies to cyclists? Highway code Rule 160

Although to be fair, if you ignore all this when in your car you are only doing the same as most motorists ime.

Needless to say I’m chosing my words carefully now. I’m not suggesting there’s a vested interest here (like a pro cycling agenda or anything), heaven forbid. Maybe they should just rename it pedal-heads, or the cyclists’ forum and be done with it?

Have you seriously not seen the lane discipline of motorists over the last 20 years and more?

"Some of them are part of the problem".Are we not all part of the problem?
But then what is the problem? Is it this?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5973001/Fr...
Leaving aside that that is about motorways, it's a snapshot imo of the national picture of traffic congestion in the uk, which is said to cost all of us motorists more than 24 hours of our lives annually on average.
So how much of that problem do you think cyclists cause or contribute?
My answer to that question would be: in 40 years of driving I can not recall having one single journey delayed by any significance by cyclists.
What would your answer be, and how much of the 24 hours on average do you say is due to cyclists?
Any other cyclist haters may also feel free to answer. :-)

Well, that's sort of my problem. You see, I can drive, therefore I can overtake, without endangering the cyclists life. Or at least I can when the road isn't full of oncoming cars, so the answer is, not really, no, I just tend to pass them by. Oh wait, I forgot, you like to ignore all that inconvenient ste.
