Yeah that’s fair enough, and it’s only a statement of opinion, not fact. People will judge based on their own past experiences. Only natural really.
You're right and having being brought up amongst unreliable Renaults (no I wasnt born in a car salvage) I should think that way too. TBH it took me a while to give Renault a second chance !

Of all the hot hatches the Renault has got to be one of the worst long term propositions. Having had Renaults before the whole experience was disappointing and with constant faults.

I really can’t understand the fanboy following they get, but each to their own.
I used to think that. The MKII Clio 172 RS I bought brand new, squeeked, rattled, and generally annoyed me every time I drove it. Worst car I've ever owned. Dealer are even worse than the cars. Swore blind I'd never own another Renault.

Zip forward to over 3 years ago. I needed a run-a-round, and was looking for something small, fun and cheap. Heard good thing about the Twingo RS. Went along to test drive one, expecting to hate it. Test drive later, it was mine. A MKII RS in Red.

Small, cheap, and great fun to drive. Reminds me of the 106 GTI I owned in my early twenties. Apart from the exhaust blowing earlier this year (replaced with a Powerflow system) the car has been totally reliable ....... touch wood.

Yes, it's cheap inside, and the new Megane won't hold a candle to an Audi in terms of fit, finish, and material quality. But they work. And as the Megane costs significantly less than any German equivalent, while being far more fun to drive in the process. I really don't think you can go wrong with this new Megane.
Almost the same experience with me... I've had two Clio RS.

First one was a bit st and fell apart on me despite being only 3 years old! A few years later I thought I'd give them another go, and the second one was fabulous and hardly ever let me down (it's also been the longest I've ever owned a car; didn't want to move on)

Would I buy again? Definitely (although in general I prefer the slightly older models to what's out at the moment)

Just to add, I absolutely love those Trophy rims. Sure, they’ll inevitably need an expensive refurb after a few years or less, but that’s hardly the end of the world. Not something an enthusiast should be unduly worried about.

I’m liking this car more and more, and will consider one in three years, which is when I’ll next be in the market thumbup

God it looks good. Easily the best looking car in this segment and many others.

Yes I agree. Which bothers me as I had my heart set on a £30k early M2 next year. And now I have no idea what I'll do.

Let’s be honest though. With all the best will in the world, despite being fabulous driver’s cars, they have a fairly modern history of crumbling gearboxes, melting steering wheels, threadbare seats, and dealers that don’t care, if you can even find one.

I’m not knocking them here, I love Renaultsport, but let’s not kid ourselves and pretend they’re a paragon of motoring in every area. Great to drive, terrible to own, is not too far away from a reasonable statement to make smile
At last some honesty 👍

Looks absolutely fantastic!

I'm a massive type R fan having had a DC2 previously for many years.

This Megane RS Trophy appeals more to me than the current, fabulous, civic type r for the following reasons;

Doesn't look as lairy.

Has alcantara seat option.

Has non-manual option.

Has 4WS (come on Honda, you had it on the Prelude way back, pop it back on the civic/new integra (wishing)).

Only issue is I live in London, don't have a garage, so the odd's on it not getting nicked are low; still, VERY tempting!!

All noted. You think they are unreliable.

Still would take the Civic - reliability records are impeccible on them. That matters when you own the thing for 3-5yrs.

That's very important indeed although the MK3 record is outstanding by all accounts and it came out before the turbo Civics.

But then again, the new Megane is different and has a different block so perhaps won't be as good as Honda, but then again, what is ?

Personally I wouldn't run a modern car outside of manufacturers' warranty.

If reliability is top of your list when buying a £30k+ 300bhp+ FWD hothatch then you're doing it wrong hehe

And as Nickfrog says, reliability on the Renault range is spot on now anyway, and the MK4 Megane (bear in mind we've had it for over 2 years already) has been brilliant.

The Megane RS 3 has an excellent reliability record, despite many of then are being driven hard. I looked into this carefully before buying mine given the... less then stellar reputation Renault has. It’s been completely reliable for two years and 40’000 miles. Workshop has been as useless as the car is nice though. Good thing I only visit it during servicing and subsequent attempts to sort out the things they messed up.

Both my modern Renaults were very reliable - a Megane 250 Cup and Clio 220 Trophy.

I had an LCD screen fail on the Megane, but was replaced on warrantee. Mechanically the car was perfect even after loads of trackdays. The current cars are a world away from the unreliable stuff of the past.

The only thing I don't like is the size of the Renault badge on the front. It needs to be bigger.
