Correct. Strut brace off and the upper inlet manifold off to change them. Guaranteed bleeding knuckled from the bolts at the back of the UIM.

To the person who mentioned understeer, all cars will understeer at a point and the point the nose would run wide in the 220 was pretty amazing for a FWD car of it's weight. I always prefer RWD but a very good FWD car can be better than a mediocre RWD one.
My comment was in response to a comparison with the BMW 328. My ownership experience was that the 328 is not a mediocre RWD car.

'torque monster'?

207lb ft @ 4,900rpm...

Anyway, nice looking car and sounds like a great drive!

I like these. Seriously considered one several years ago. Thought about them again when I was looking for a daily, but decided to go diesel instead. A good looking car and some have decent spec. Apparently the bottom of the doors can rust? Better seats then the ST TDCi as well and no fake exhaust like the ST TDCi.

That turbo one looks interesting. I bet the guy has over £10k in that in mods.

I had an estate for a few years, did everything in it fro taking the dogs out, taking stuff to the tip, and taking it around silverstone. All the comparisons to a 320d... I borrowed a clients 320d when I locked myself out of my mondeo at her house. I was surprised at how slow the (e9x) 3 series felt!

Mine was 04, so bearable tax, averaged about 24mpg but sounded lovely although not really that quick. The comfiest seats I have ever sat in, and so much car for your money.

Always loved these. I drive an e46/330i and rarely a day goes by when I don't have a "what if" moment.

Especially with a kid on the way, I'm definitely now regretting that decision - I need the boot space!

Alternatively, get a Renault Laguna II 3.0 V6 24v VVT.
0-60 in 6.3 seconds, and they go non stop to 155.
Not only that, on a long drive it will do 35mpg easy without even trying.

For even more go, add a Clio V6 remap.

Funny how Sierra Cosworths are feted and worth a fortune, yet these are worth not very much, its a better car in most ways, just not valued.

Strange thing the car market.
Iconic and Motorsport pedigree vs a tarted up mondeo V6.

Aren't pretty much all fast Fords just tarted up models? Except up until around the time of the ST200, they usually had crap engines to go along with them.

I seem to remember the Mondeo in Motorsport, BTCC especially, not quite the same as the Sierra but it did its share, A Cosworth Sierra is still a Sierra.

I am playing devils advocate to a certain extent, but they are both the top, sporting versions of their respective models, one is highly prized, the other isnt. Not driven either for years but the Mondeo was loads nicer than any Sierra was, but it just isnt perhaps bedroom wall material in the same way, it just hasnt got that certain something that means people will pay 25 grand for one. It may have its day and has a following but it will never be in the same way.

If you need the space and practicality of an st220 I'd much rather have an st170 estate;
better looks, sharper handling, more grip, less weight, rarer (it seems) and cheaper too!
No nasty diesel noise to put up with and no tiny power band to manage, my imperial blue 3 door has been driven hard for 5yrs from 48,000 to 93,000 and I've had no reliablility issues at all other than the well known engine management light fault due to the little box that controls torque at low rpm

I have never seen the appeal of Ford, this car do a nothing to change that!
A mate of mine has one of these and every time he turns up in the pub, he’s greeted by a chorus of ‘Taxi!’ chants.

I’d rather take a taxi.

Then you are more brand led than a petrolhead, Ford made stuff like GT40's, they make the RS Focus and by and large pretty decent cars, but if they arent premium enough for you ?

And this is why everyone’s views are different on cars, which is great.
Would rather an ST220 estate than an ST170 estate though...

They’re £1000-2500. Majority of cars can be used as taxis in that range.

I like the 330s but 6 years ago when I was looking around the Mondeo STs the BMWs were around £1000-2000 more

Not much in it

But there's nothing interesting, inspiring or remotely smile inducing about a 320d? It's an appliance, the ST220 isn't.
A Mondeo is smile inducing?
Yes if you enjoy laughing at people who think is a great, otherwise more yawn inducing unless you drive it like a Pratt!

You could not be more wrong. Have you actually driven one? You would then know that it has a great chassis and peach on an engine.

At a guess he's assuming a 220 is diesel.
