That Duratec V6 is a great engine, and makes a really good noise in an "old school" way; loads of induction and mechanical noise and not a lot of farting exhaust noise as has now become the fashion. If it had come from any other manufacturer we'd all be lionising it and lamenting it's loss.

I smell a BMW fan boy. I can't wait to hear what you thought about the ST220 from your personal driving experience, how does it compare to the 330i I assume you've also driven too?

I only had the 2.5 Duratec V6's in my ST24/Ghia X and I was a big fan of those. I actually preferred the Ford Duratec V6 to the 3.0 Straight Six that I had in my 330i.

The V6 Duratec engine made a much nicer noise to my ears than the Bmw 6 cylinder in the 330i for me. I've never been in or driven the ST220...I just know I'd love it though.

I've always liked these, and agree they actually sound really good with a tweaked exhaust. There's also something Fox-bodied Mustang about the shape, which is appealing.

For a while around 10 years ago, my team had an X-Type with the short-stroke 2.1 Duratec V6 as a pool car.

Fast, it was not, but I loved driving it. The fact it was lower powered meant that you thrashed it everywhere, and it sounded utterly glorious while you did so. A proper old-school smooth bassy note at low revs, building to a magnificent howling crescendo towards the redline. I drove everywhere with the windows down and the stereo off.

I wish my B9 S4 sounded half as good.

Engine was good enough for a noble m12. Sweet sounding engine just got to make sure you don't get oil starvation.
