My local Honda dealer threw me the keys whilst my NSX was having an oil change a few months back - I was very unimpressed with the drive to be honest. It just felt like a warmed-over airport rental, with added torque-steer at the top of the rev range. No doubt it was quite brisk, but not in a nice way.
The best thing to be said about it was that you couldn't tell what it looked like from the inside. Sorry Mr Honda.
You do realise every journo on the planet has praised the car for its incredible drive and these guys also test cars like the NSX (which is sub par in its segment). Troll! The best thing to be said about it was that you couldn't tell what it looked like from the inside. Sorry Mr Honda.

^ They are very different cars, in very different market segments. I just didn't gel with the Civic, despite the performance being apparently comparable - this comes down to feel I suppose.
But your nsx will feel leaden and ste next to a caterham, so what’s the point comparing them?Big wows, a modern turbocharged fwd hatch doesn’t drive as good as a 20 year old bespoke Supercar.
What did you expect?

Always amazes me that Honda don't offer two choices, the standard chavvy boy racer styled version and a toned down version. Bet they would sell a bucket load of the latter. But they don't, and so everyone chooses the Golf GTI or another golf variant.
My guess is that's exactly what they're doing - keep a GT top of the range with 20" rims and big spoiler, then bring in a "business" edition or similar, small wing, smaller wheels, bit more toned down to fit in with company car drivers.Type R history has never had such a car though, it's always been an extreme vehicle and tbh that's really its USP vs. a bland golf.
That concept challenges me though... I'd genuinely thought that if you got rid of the teatray, the Demon Twerks addenda and the Ann Summers interior that I'd be sold. And yet, the base car's looks are challenging to me. Challenging enough to put me off? Maybe, maybe not... but I'd certainly want it in a sober colour to hide its styling.
I don't need 300bhp and I don't need it to be good on a track. Give it a bit less power, keep the LSD, give it a more sober interior and a chance to give it a steer... I think it might be a good 'un. I know some would say "If you want to be boring, that's why the Golf exists". However, there's considerable middle ground between the Golf's conservative approach and the current Type R's extraversion, and a Type S might fill it quite well.
I still find the idea of a Mégane appeals more than the alternatives though.

I didn't know what to expect, that's why I gave it a go. I didn't think I was comparing them, just commenting on my (brief) experience of a car with similar "power" Big wows, a modern turbocharged fwd hatch doesn’t drive as good as a 20 year old bespoke Supercar.

Wish I hadn't bothered now.
I drove an FK2 for a bit a few weeks back and don’t know where the torque steer comments come from TBh, I thought it drove and responsed very well.
I’ve experienced more toque steer from an R26 Megane.
The looks are definitely subjective, but what car isn’t? I think a Golf R looks boring. Would it stop me owning one? Probably not, but each to their own.

Not that I view them as the paragon of automotive journalism, but Top Gear magazine’s website just published a group test of the Honda pitched against the Megane, Hyundai and Cupra. The Civic ‘won’
Of course I understand that the looks are divisive, but there’s little doubt the Honda is a monumentally good hot hatch!

My bad, I just assumed you were talking about the latest one. Now I kind of understand where you are coming from dobly said:

Tons more comments just about the styling... we get it, it's not pretty. But isn't the point to be stupid and OTT looking in a Japanese hot hatch? Well done to Honda for making something different, sure the average 40+ family man wouldn't be seen in it but I'm not sure that's the market they're looking for.
All that said, young people can't afford this sort of thing. So the styling is a bit silly really isn't it?

We have had a hot hatch as our second car since 2005.
Clio 182
Astra VXR
Megane 250 cup
Civic Type R
We call it the Chav chariot.......and we love it. We got ours brand new at £27500.00 (plus £555.00 for 5 services) and it's a brilliant car particularly at that price point. Everything about the car works well and the seats are probably the most comfortable I've had in any car.
On normal roads it will hold it's own against most things south of a 911
As I said in a previous post.....whether you like it or not, Honda should at least be applauded for making the car in the first place.
