Had my Blob STi as my daily for 5 years now. Love it to bits, but I must admit I do keep getting tempted my something newer and more refined. I know very few cars available in my budget will thrill me or make me smile as much as this one does though - hence we're still inseparable (even after a head gasket failure and deep pockets to repair!)

Have fun!

That looks mint! Really like the PFF7 wheels too. I've been on your blog a couple of times already and there's some great content on there so keep it up!

Hi Ben. Great article. It's reignited my childhood desire to own one.

May I ask a ballpark figure you paid for this low miler?

I have a 2016 STI and i've got to be honest, it's the least sleep i've ever had before picking up a new car.

I absolutely love it, it's flippin' awesome. It's taught on the road, accepts direction changes the way I'd hope other cars i've driven could only dream of and on one of my favourite drives from Teeside to Essex in blizzard conditions on winters, proved to be both safe AND fun - something the VAG equivalents never attained.

Subaru appears to be very much a family of like-minded people, above and beyond regular petrolheads.

I'm looking forward to putting a lot of miles, a titanium exhaust (perhaps) and a damned good stereo into it. I'm having this one serviced at Subaru throughout its ownership - zero hassle.

Add Petrol and grin!

Thank you! If you're looking at an 03/04 STI with PPP, expect to pay around £10/11K for a nice clean one with around 50/60K on the clock. The last 05 Blobs with Widetrack/DCCD seem to be around the £12-14K mark. I can only see these values going up as nice clean cars are increasingly hard to find, which can be said for most cars over 10 years old really. I was lucky enough to know Tim and to get this one before it went to market, and I'm chuffed with the condition/history of my Clio 182 Cup I've recently purchased too.

Enjoyed reading that. Great buy Ben, hope you enjoy lots of fun miles in it.

Back in 2000 as an 18 year old I managed to blag a passenger lap in an RB5 at Knockhill. I was an Impreza addict after the first corner. The noise, the acceleration, the grip was just unbelievable compared to my 1.4 Nissan Sunny biggrin

It took me a good few years but eventually I got myself my dream car - a P1 with Recaros, 18s and Hella driving lamp options. What a car it was. Enjoyed it for 3 years till mortgages and kids took priority! Hope to be back again one day but as you say, good examples are getting thinner on the ground. I sold mine for £8k with 46'000 miles......

I had a 2001 Bug WRX. Great car when it worked but were more hassle than what it were worth in the end. Cost me way too much in repairs but when it worked it were great. Don't get me wrong it were only standard but it did the job. Great cars for the money but if anyone is going to buy one they need to check everything, even the history as some are ticking time bombs with the engines.

People say there's are reliable but in the real world they aren't. I know plenty of owners who have gone through gearboxes and engines with just standard cars. If you can find one that has been well looked after then you're probably going to be lucky and have no problems. Most now have been abused and some owners like myself foot the bill.

I do miss the WRX and I know I will never own anything like it. The grip and power is next level at the price I paid.

My advice to anyone is just the history of the car and check for rust.

I will add the following, and this is coming from someone who has been driving a (last model) 2.5i Legacy since 2015 but applies to all Subaru's.

1. If you keep the car maintained, this is to stick by the manufacturers service intervals you will not have issues. Maintenance extends to having it washed x2 every winter underneath to get rid of the road crud and salt which represents rust waiting to happen;

2. The higher level models such as the WRX etc are essentially Rally cars for the road and as such should be ran on 98 and serviced every 9,000 km. if you don't do this the car will in all likelihood die prematurely (this from local mechanics experienced with such).

It’s tough to choose which to take to work on these fine summers mornings.... Spec C RA or loud as hell 93 WRX. The loud one wins mostly smile

Article made me smile. Just sold my 2017 Golf R and replaced it with a mint 98 WRX STI IV. Loved the Golf but over the moon to be back in an Impreza

Almost but I'd say a 22b just about pips it. Gotta love those flared wheel arches.

yes

22b by a fair margin, and I prefer the STi Type-R to the P1 as well - the P1 was based on the R, but I never really liked the extra chin they tacked on.

I actually had a chance to purchase a 22b after my Type R. This was when they were still going for reasonable money, I think the one I looked at was around £13k at the time but I decided I didn't want another Subaru so soon. More fool me, they along with other cars I lusted after from that period seem to have all bubbled into the stratosphere!

Yep - another vote for 22B here. Absolute perfection visually.
