RE: Subaru Impreza WRX STI Type UK: PH Fleet
Discussion
I had this 02 STi from new, it replaced an 01 WRX and both cars were horribly unreliable, many many issues particularly with the STi.
I really wanted to love it, but the experience was ruined by utterly hopeless main dealers and the arrogance of IM.
If an unmolested P1 came along at the right price I'd almost certainly snap it up.

The thing is, the Type R is technically better than a P1. A P1 is nothing special, just a STI with 2 doors. I think it's the limited numbers that push prices up.
Isn't a P1 basically a Type R anyway with the trick switchable diff removed and replaced with ABS as the two systems aren't compatible. As far as I am aware most of the other bits are the same, even down to the engine mapped for 100 RON fuel which IM (Subaru UK) couldn't be bothered to remap so they just stuck some sort of briquette in the tank to try to stop detonation on lower grade fuel IIRC.The P1 is more expensive than Type Rs because it was UK supplied and more people are aware of them. The history is easier to trace and I guess it's also easier to call up a Subaru dealer and get parts for them.
People in the know would buy a V5/V6 Type R over a P1 - especially given the price difference! Parts are no more difficult to get than the P1 either.
