Surely someone within one of the Italian brands can see an opportunity at under half a million quid???
I mean, the 8C wasn't cheap, and firstly the business case was successfully made, and then they made the car. Surely, if they could produce an 8C, then someone would be able to produce a new Stratos, which, when you consider the provenance, wouldn't you expect to be able to make money from that alone? Obviously the car itself has to be at an appropriate standard, but with so much margin to play with, I would have thought this was a real possibility.
Struggling to understand why they haven't gone ahead.
Now amortise the development costs across a production run of a couple of dozen cars.I mean, the 8C wasn't cheap, and firstly the business case was successfully made, and then they made the car. What I meant to say was, isn't there a market for this kind of car at, say, £150-250k, to build quite a lot more (not really sure how many, but thinking several hundred if not a few thousand)?
Lancia is owned by the FCA group, so getting access to the manufacturing skills and high end components can be done 100% in house. This could be a hero car to push sales of more mainstream models.
And the possibility to re-use F430 architecture would mean the development costs would be lower than having to recreate everything from scratch.
Imagine, if they announced that there would be 500 factory units produced at £200k, in full rally livery, with modern Ferrari underpinnings; would that be of interest?

I had a good look at a 4C recently. Would appear to be a far more suitable donor vehicle. Even the windscreen is curvy.
Why don’t FCA just do a light make over and offer the 4C with a Lancia badge too?
When the one off was being put together the 430 was right at the end of its production. Plus the guy who commissioned it owns the rights to the concept. Why don’t FCA just do a light make over and offer the 4C with a Lancia badge too?
So they would have to start totally from scratch if they used another base model, which by the time its ready would be classed as an old car in the range also, it would cost a small fortune to do and would always be compared to this one even if that owner agreed to sell the rights, plus Lancia simply does not have the following to get buyers to pay such big bucks. Never going to happen just like this one.
The new cars you see today were planned out many years before.
If Ferrari, Mclaren, Porsche etc decided to do a retro car, by the time Joe Public hears about it then the car is in its last stage of development, and the order books would be full anyway.
I very much doubt this is MAT's project, they are just the very credible sub contract constructor, there will be a money man fronting this idea once again, so in order for everyone to get a slice of the pie they need to shift them at the price indicated. This is why such projects stall at this stage, as anyone with that kind of dosh is canny enough not to stump up the no doubt huge deposit being asked, which they may never see again, where as its as good as money in the bank (and then some more at resale) if you hand it over to the known constructors.
Another similar scheme was recently being touted by a collector who commissioned a V8 Dino restomod. He started offering a further 20 odd examples with a huge asking price, with allegedly F40 engines to be fitted.
It is a lovely car, but the asking price was double that of an unmolested example.
People soon worked out who had actually built the car for the owner (Mototechnique), and anyone could just go direct to them anyway, then the claim of an F40 engine was watered down to a F40 block, which then turned out to actually be a bare 3.2 block out of a lowly Mondial anyway. There are a very small handful of F40 crate engines still available, but no where near 20 regardless and they command a fortune)
I doubt we will see any more of those cars appear either.

Fiat have history doing this type of thing too: the Enzo and MC12! I think the Lancia badge is not long for this world, personally. They're re-badging chrysler 300's....! Not bringing out a brown and grey with chrome version of the Giulia, like Hyundai are doing with the Kia Stinger and Hyundai G70 which might have re-established the Lancia brand. Why don’t FCA just do a light make over and offer the 4C with a Lancia badge too?

Side by side, you can sort of see what they were aiming for. There are some obvious cues from the original but it, to me of course, looks like a kit car of a kit car. You'd have to really, really want one of these to chop up a 430.
Those headlights on the new one are unforgivable though <sadface>
