I saw one of these on the motorway a while back and it was yellow, was that a factory option or has it been done after the fact? It looked ridiculous, I liked it
Yellow was a factory colour, we had a Trophy Yellow launch model and it was great fun.We then did a special order car via the Monogram programme in Sunspot Yellow - very similar to Renault's liquid Yellow - there is a thread about it on here as someone bought it and did some renovation work on it. It was the first ZS in that colour and apparently only 14 more were made thereafter. Here is a pic from when we had it:-
Great shed, I drove one of these a few weeks back and it still felt great to drive (I was an MGR salesman back in the day) with the V6 making quite an entertaining noise. It didn't feel particularly quick in a straight line but feels wonderfully old-school and of course handles well, if I had a bit more space (and funds) to keep it I would absolutely have one, I agree it would have to be a facelift though.

Did you get the yellow interior too? Good timing PH, i have just picked up a lovely MkII in the last week, Its had all the niggles sorted with an ITG filter on it plus a nice sheddist clutch kit.
It'll be accompanying the existing ZR160 as part of the growing sub 1k track-day fleet, absolutely fantastic handling cars and can keep most thing honest in the bends.
I've not had anything for anywhere near the same price that has come near them.

It says in the ad that the aircon's not working. There are numerous reasons why that may be the case (as on any car), but those (third party) HVAC controls were only fitted to the facelift cars, suggesting this one's had them retrofitted.
I preferred the facelift personally, which IIRC got a few more mm in track width too, accommodated under the larger arches.
Great fun anyway. I drove a few and they always left a smile on my face.

I don't know why but I've always had a soft spot for these. I had an Autocar hot hatch feature in my collection and around Castle Combe in the wet, the ZS180 was half a second faster than an EP3 Civic Type R and only beaten (by the same half a second) by a Clio 172, so these are fairly well sorted cars.
These must be at the bottom of their deprecation curve, so bought now, its unlikely you'd lose money on one and in time, they may even appreciate a little. People may scoff, but look at the prices of MG Metros and Maestros these days.

Oh my god... I want that so bad. Is that bad?A mate has had one for about 12 years, we've done a few track days in it, it's lightly modded for the job, it's a cracking car, and the combination of that NASP V6 and a decent exhaust makes a lovely noise.

I was thinking that it could be a bit of a left-field fun, right until I saw those off-center ventilation controls - my mild OCD simply couldn’t cope - what were they thinking?
You can keep the Zonda for the same reason.....
It does look inexcusably awkward, doesn't it?You can keep the Zonda for the same reason.....
I think I might know why they've done it though, after a bit of pondering. From straight on, it looks like someone has cocked it up. From the drivers seat you'll be viewing it from an angle and if you look at the way the cold and hot arrow buttons are angled, I guess these would appear to be pointing straight up and down from that seated position. So possibly an attempt at good ergonomics, but still looks totally guff.

There's nothing to suggest this one has the later controls fitted. Shed only included that photo in the article to make the tenuous link to the Zonda, and it's not a photo from this car.cheesesliceking said:

Sorry no. Delightful as it may be round a track, I can't get past the retired civil servant image. Badge it what you like, it's still a dated looking Rover underneath. Suspension, brakes and bushes, it's still a polished turd.
Odd words from someone who’s owned such cutting edge and delightfully dynamically imaged bundles of excitement as a Citroen Picasso and Renault Laguna...acme said:

Had a 53 plate example - almost the same as this but without the red flashes. Was quite a hoot when you gave it beans but the stainless exhaust was loud enough to piss most of the neighbours off and the wife hated the big wing. Had it for a couple of years and i don't remember it costing me very much apart from new rubber.
A lot of fun for under 1k
