Not long after having the ZS I bought one of the mentioned above Civic 1.8 Vti to compare them back to back (as a DC2 fan I was expecting something quite special) and that Honda was an absolute dud, a stonking engine mated to the wrong gearing to blunt its performance, and dreadfull bouncy suspension and light steering, just no good in any respect, which surpsied me but also made me appreciate just how good Rover made that MG ZS180 in terms of handling, grip and grunt.
I think most of the Hondas have had a hard life now, probably much harder than Rover / MG as sweeping average, even about 10 years ago mine required lots of maintenance to keep it tip top so I can only imagine what they are like now.As an everyday proposition with todays money would buy a ZS out of the two, no question!

The Civic Vti I bought belonged to a pals mother for the past 15 years so it was a very clean low miles FSH example that had been driven gently (it took a few goes for me to get the vtec working when I picked it up to drive it home and there was a big brown cloud out the exhaust when it did finally start working again). As an everyday proposition with todays money would buy a ZS out of the two, no question!
a standard Civic Vti is nothing like a type R, its just a soft shopping car with poor handling but an amazing engine. The MG version drives like a properly sorted hot hatch should.

It isnt, or rather wasnt, uncommon for MG suspension components to be used on the Hondas, by owners looking for spawty handling. This explains why.
correct as can be seen on ebay quite a few ZS180 ads being broken for spares and they say things like rear ARB and shock and springs are a good upgrade for Honda models.Top shed - Has all the right ingredients for a few months if not years of cheap fun. Who cares about the 'image' some people have of it, or of you driving it, it is the essence of shedliness https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/9.gif
