RE: Ford Fiesta ST vs. Toyota Yaris GRMN
Discussion
Neither have very pretty bottoms and I'm not a fan of the Yaris 'advert esque' graphics but the Yaris appears far more in keeping with the nature of what both cars are allegedly aiming at.
The ST appears to be allowed to move its own goalposts so that it scores. A fun and frisky little hot hatch that has now matured into a more rounded all-round hatchback, so not quite so hot and more 'hatchback GT ish'
So in more straight metallic paint, the Yaris for me..

The Fiesta in that spec is £21,358 on DTD. A saving of £3,156.
Still can't work out the justification for a test against a car that is no longer available, when other were discounted for odd reasons..
Indeed and especially as most reviews are saying this latest ST has grown up. So it would have been better pitched against the Polo GTI in which case. Hopefully they'll be quick to review it against the Ibiza Cupra when that's out next year as they should be very close in terms of target consumers.Still can't work out the justification for a test against a car that is no longer available, when other were discounted for odd reasons..

Yeah that's all well and good, but what if I want no track ability? What hot hatch would I buy for that?
I thought the ST would be a hoot when I saw the specs 6 months back, but I should've know better. The 3 cylinder engines sound nice, and are far smoother and more interesting than the bland 4 cylinder turbos we've been dogged by for the last 10 years, but they're all attached to enormous baggy flywheels. You can stamp on the throttle of most of these cars and the revs don't rise more than a couple of hundred - it's pathetic.
It's a shame the petrol engine is going out with a whimper. While I'll miss changing gears for sure once electric power takes over, I won't miss the much else about the last 10 years of rubbish.
I should probably get one of the last proper clios or civics before the next generation bump the prices... Such a shame.
Get yersen a bike like I just have because of exactly this. 432bhp per tonne, N/A engine, 11500 redline, £6700 brand new, £103 per year insurance for me, £88 per year tax. Then get yersen a cheap commuter for when the weather's bad. Perhaps I'm being slightly glib but the cars I am interested in are just too expensive or too old/potential money pits.I thought the ST would be a hoot when I saw the specs 6 months back, but I should've know better. Just seen that the Yaris has BBS forged alloy wheels rather than cast, they seem to have thrown a fair few good bits of kit at it. With the limited numbers and different supercharged engine I guess it would be a long term keeper that might be worth more in the future.
I prefer the stickers that make it stand out rather than those horrible ST wheels and MPV rear ...

What’s the discounted cost of the ST, £25k seems like a whole heap of cash when at launch a nicely spec’d Focus RS was circa £32k!?!
And yet on another thread, people thought a basic spec £100,000 M5 was good value !On Britain's give and take back roads, with a decent driver at the helm, this little Fiesta will be welded to the M5's tail.
Surely you can see that an M5 brings a bit more to the party across a wider range of scenarios?

If that's your only measure of success then you'll never understand the need for anything more than a little hot hatch or a supermoto.

100k for a fast 5 series though? Does seem a bit much.Surely you can see that an M5 brings a bit more to the party across a wider range of scenarios?

Gods teeth, I must be antediluvian, when did a Fiesta become a £24k car or more to the point when did it become ‘worth’ £24k?
I have a (weird) theory that car prices rise in line with the transfer costs and wages of Premier League prima donnas....
It ain’t the headline price, it’s what monthly payments on PCP that dictates car prices, which is why the manufacturers can price whatever they like!!I have a (weird) theory that car prices rise in line with the transfer costs and wages of Premier League prima donnas....
