RE: Ford Focus RS (Mk2) Mountune Racing: Spotted
Discussion
Had an RS for 3 years. Great car, the noise was lovely. Mine had 350bhp and the fwd handled it easily. And the torque was ridiculous, felt so muscular.
Downsides were the plastic feeling cheap interior, the nav and radio interface were pretty bad a few years ago let alone now. Also people sitting on my bumper used to grate a lot after a while.
I remember when I sold it the guy collected it at night, it had all been cleaned for him and the street lighting bounced of the green as he ragged it up the road. It looked so squat and wide as it warbled out of view and i actually thought at that moment I'd made a mistake..

Lovely car, always wanted one of these when they came out..
Got to say, not quite sure why they command the current pricing (fast ford tax?) - I sat in one at a local performance car dealer and thought no way in hell was this worth 19/20k ... I'm not one to normally care about interiors but it did feel particularly cheap, but then again I guess you wouldn't buy one to stroke the interior. I didn't hear the glorious engine noise or take it for a drive though, Would love to have a ride in one and see how it compares to my CTR.

I would imagine that over 3 years and 30,000 miles the Focus would cost far more than the Fiesta in terms of depreciation, fuel, insurance, servicing and maintenance.
Road tax alone on the Focus RS is perhaps £300 - £400 per year more than Fiesta, Fuel an Extra £1200 a year,
Servicing & consumables maybe an extrta £600 a year,
Insurance is probably a little more, say £150 a year
Maintenance is the elephant in the room, could be £500 could be £1500, call it £1000 per year.
So additional cost per year say: £3200 per year
Over 3 years £9600 additional cost
Assuming zero depreciation on Focus RS (big assumption but rock solid residuals for good condition cars dont lie)
I suspect a 3 year old Fiesta ST will be worth about £13k.
So I would say over 3 years the Focus RS would probably cost £3-4k more.
I would buy the Focus RS, and smile!!!

“Stop what you’re doing, fellow PHer, because we have a very important question for you. You’re in the market for a fast Ford hot hatch. Where would your hard earned money go: on a brand spanking new Ford Fiesta ST, like the one that just pipped the Toyota Yaris GRMN in our recent test, or a previous-generation Focus RS, like the one that’s on sale in the classifieds?”
And that’s why it’s such a daft article - why would anyone with the required budget restrict themselves to a choice of fast Ford hot hatches?? Neither is the right choice.

yes I'm serious. In the way that in the 70s teenage boys had posters of a lamborghini Miura ... for me that was the poster of the alien green Focus RS. Its a complete dream car, when I see one on the road it's like seeing a Pagani Zonda, it feels like magical.treeroy said:

Still, would like a go of one to see what my teenage poster car was about.

I love seeing an old Ferrari. Modern ones don't do much for me.

I still have fond memories of owning a 2009 Focus RS, epic sound track.
There was a mountune version parked next to me in the paddock at Goodwood on Saturday. It went very nicely indeed around the track.
Sold my SEAC and bought a low mileage 2010 model Alan.. now with REVO 2 and Milltek exhaust and decat. Sounds very nice indeed, and they certainly have road presence. Still miss the TIV though There was a mountune version parked next to me in the paddock at Goodwood on Saturday. It went very nicely indeed around the track.

Focus RS2s were everywhere just a few years ago, now, hardly ever see one.
Suspect they've become garage queens just like 99% of all other RS products.
Can't remember the last Cosworth I saw.
Really? I've seen all sorts of great cars in the last few weeks with the excellent weather we've been having - partly people commuting in their special car, dropping them off at the local tuner garages and partly people taking them out to the excellent Welsh blacktop for a drive or local car shows. Seen a few Cosworths, some old M3s, couple of 260Zs. Still see a few Focus RS2s around - tend to notice them more because of the lovely 5-cylinder noise, especially late in the evening when the roads are empty and the engines get 'extended' Suspect they've become garage queens just like 99% of all other RS products.
Can't remember the last Cosworth I saw.
