RE: Aston Martin Cygnet V8: Driven

It is just so good that Aston have built something like this.
Completely pointless in practical terms but so much more of a statment than any SUV.
It also sounds like they have exceeded the customers likely expectations too.
Well done Aston.
Great to see PH are still posting high resolution postage stamps. Is it the cost of server space or the 90’s PC hard drives that determine it.

As soon as the retail price becomes well known it will be purchased by those who need others to know how rich they are & how they can waste money on silly toys.
I made masses of money selling champagne & Cognac with stupid high prices to such poseurs. The higher the price the more I sold.

A friend of mine had a Metro 6R4 and took me for a quick spin once - I say spin as it spun all four wheels all the way through all of its six gears in about four seconds - the noise, the acceleration, the vibration - just the full on drama was an attack on all of my senses and thirty seconds of my life I will never forget.
He then went on to build his own road car using a blueprinted Jaguar V6 Twin Turbo - AKA Jaguar XK 220!!! - On a test drive at Silverstone I remember seeing the same thing - immense drama, Immense noise and six gears being about six gears too few - he never quite finished the project as the gearboxes were too expensive - about 24K a pop. The only thing close I have to come to that experience since was a brief ownership of a TVR Cerbera - every single time I got anywhere near it the car would beckon me in, goad me, and ultimately I found myself mostly going far too fast, far too often - far too fast!!!!
I realised I possessed neither the temerity to resist or the skills required to drive it properly, sensibly or safely - few do - in time to not end up going through the gates of hell backwards, screaming; and on fire - I see the appeal of this bonkers creation I really do.

Great pics but for me the article was a waste of time...
Supposedly it's a 'Driven' article then I'd have preferred some detailed information on the sense of acceleration, how it handles, traction etc rather than reams of guff about not a lot.
Given many of us will never see it, let alone drive it or anything like it; a detailed, well written article to put readers in the virtual drivers seat would have been good.

Nobody else thinks that this is a bit of a lash-up that won't do Aston's reputation as a 'quality' marque much good? The interior in particular looks thrown together and as others have suggested there's zero bodywork finesse.
Interior fit and finish is up to AM's usual standard ...GranCab said:
Looks like N24/GT4 alcantara covers to me. Ive seen a few.....As for the ABS/TCS one would assume that the hubs are still AM?
The ECU and therefore wiring will more than likely be lifted from a Vantage, meaning it would not be impossible to wire a Bosch M5 motorsport
adjustable ABS/TCS system (as are fitted into the racers) which can be adjusted for individual requirements. Stability control is another matter....
I love car makers making silly models like this.
I know that every change is essentially bespoke so costs need to be kept in check, however I do wish they had made more of an effort with the wheel arches. Extending the bodywork rather than those extensions.
But costs would have been silly.
Hats off for making it though. A bizarre Aston badges car to start with made even more bizarre.
