All premium brands benefit from a halo product.
Yes but that isn't the point.

To design and build a fast techno showcase of a car with the pretense of 'sexing up' an already very sought after brand is costly, and from a business perspective it might not be even worth the effort even if they sell them all.

This is an evolutionary product though, not revolutionary. The i8 was revolutionary.

This is tweaking the old 6-series formula, but moving it up the market slightly.

Yes that's what the new 8 series is, more of the same, another step up the BMW upgrade path, and that's precisely why quite a few people are left feeling cold about it.

BMW focuses on buyers. If they do something too radical, it doesn't make commercial sense. They launched the i8 as their radical step, and the i4 will be next, then more behind.

A couple of internet beards being left cold by a car that they were likely never going to like enough to buy is of minimal concern to BMW, or any manufacturer.

And that's what I already mentioned in my previous posts, they just want to sell as many cars and to do that is enter the market where the lowest possible denominator can stretch for one, i.e mass market appeal.

Do you work at a BMW dealership or a used car dealership for ex PCP'd BMWs? It appears you are constantly jumping on everyone's opinion of the 8 series, either you have vested interest in protecting the perceived 'image' of the car to safeguard buyer interest or you feel you have the right to dictate the direction of forum opinion of certain cars/car makers.

No. I don't even own a BMW. This is a forum to share opinions.

...plus I'm just anti-whinging/anti-negative. ;-)
