I suspect that it'll be a very good car, most versions of the Focus have been pretty decent. I have a soft spot for the MKI & II RS models as well.

My only issue is that I've struggled to like the looks of the last Focus and it's facelift. My other half had a Focus tdci and despite not liking how it looked, it was a really good drive. I just think they've lost the edge on looks especially compared to the first model Focus which even now looks sharp.

Not sure why people are throwing around figures of £30k. Going on the Ford website today I'm struggling to spec a current fully loaded ST3 for more than £29k. And that's just list price.

Yes, I'm sure the new model will be a bit pricier, but I still reckon you'll be able to pick up one with a decent spec for a lot less than £30k.
I don't know about that. The new model appears to be somewhat more expensive that the outgoing one. You can happily get a 125bhp ST Line X with a few options for £29,540.
A few you say... scratchchin

I assume you ticked some of these? In which case I'm sure a lot of people will happily go without and save a good £4k...

Adaptive front lighting £1,050
Driver assistance pack £500
Head up display £400
Towbar £600
BLIS £400
Heated steering wheel £150
Panoramic sunroof £995
Wireless charging pad £100
etc etc.

Base price on a 125hp ST-line X is 24K though, would you really add another 5500 quid of options on a 24K car, which is already the highest standard spec? Ive specced 3 new cars in my life so far, all ive been bothered with option wise was a space saver spare and perhaps the colour... stuff like climate and cruise control is standard on cars like this

If the ST starts at 26K, i cant really imagine absolutely needing to spend another 4K in options.
All I'm saying is that it's certainly possible smile

look at the shape. seems a lot of cars in this segment are beginning to look the same thinking the Pug 308 the i30 the astra this focus the renault megane 5dr. drape them all with a black cover and you would tnot be able to tell which was the Ford or the Pug etc.

designers are like sheep.
And yet when they do something a bit different (Honda), they get a load of stick for it.

Apart from the towbar and pano roof, I'd check all of those options boxedin

My biggest hope for the new ST is that they allow you to have the Orange Fury paint. which is available on the new Mustang smile

Good shout, let's hope so as I'm seriously considering an ST in a year or 2's time smile

Well yeah, in the same way you could go on to say that you can also have coilovers fitted, a big brake kit, some OZ wheels with semislicks that last 3K, take the thing to mountune etc..

Doesnt make it a 40K car, nor is the new ST a 30K car, it is a 26K car

Any word on which gear boxes will be available?

Probably best get the flame suit ready...but I'd like it if they did a decent auto of some kind to get the wife into one of these (and away from VW).

30k on a Ford Focus is ridiculous. Showing my age now, but why on earth would a family man splash out that much cash on a new Ford Focus?
Each to their own I suppose
What brand new 5door car with 275ish bhp and decent handling would you buy instead?

I'm guessing that you are just out of touch with the prices of new cars.
I wouldn’t want a 275ish bhp 5 door car. I like a sporty hatch with 3 doors or if 5 doors are needed then an estate.
Ford used to do the whole lot, now they cut back on tooling to save production costs but still want maximum buck. I remember you just didn’t tune up a 5 door hatch, let alone fit it up with some kind of spoiler kit.
I’m probably strange by saying I can’t see why people would want to rent a car for 3 years and either give it back with nothing to show for the money spent or carry on paying £200-£300 a month again purely for........I don’t know?! It’s like a permanent mini mortgage lol. Obviously the dealers love it as it pays the vat and depreciation ready for the next buyer when the car is put back on the forecourt.
Well I suppose it keeps me in a job wink

Think you'll find the majority of manufacturers are losing the 3dr models - not a Ford only thing.
Lancia Delta Integrale had how many doors? lol

Nearly 300 bhp and 1350kg? This could be really excellent. Needs a proper diff to compete though - I’m guessing that will be extra.

This looks crap and it always will do because it has 4 doors. Your latest dull "RS" wannabe focus is a Joke, no.. not this ST i mean your actual RS that i often mistake for a diesel estate with cheap bodykit.. thats when its not blowing up. Aaaand the latest big Fiesta looks pants too. Not being mean at all i love Fast Fords, owned quite a few high spec RS's, just keepng it real, i wont buy it.

Ok so you completely avoided the question and went off on a tangent..

So what 3door hatch would you buy brand new for the same money that you think should be worth more than this.

It still looks like a minger to me, and the fact that ford did away with the multilink suspension on the lower engined models bothers me as well
VW and others did the same. Multilink is expensive, Ford need to compete. The models you'd want are multilink.

I'm a fan of the looks.
Regardless of what the other OEMs are doing, removal of the multilink suspension from the basic Focus models is a real shame.

Back in 1998, you could buy a basic Focus 1.6CL and it would be an absolutely stonking drive. You could buy a better trim level or a more powerful engine, but it wouldn't improve the driving experience. Nowadays, you have to buy at the higher end of the range to experience the car how the engineers intended it.

Good to hear they won’t be sticking the 1.5 ecoboost in it from the Fezza ST that would have been pathetic.
Since the mk3 ST was released and the diesel equivalent was introduced he ST has sort of become a lost cause in a sea of cracking hot hatches. It’s just average. Would like to see them getting 300bhp out of that engine to give it something above the competition and regain the popularity of the mk2 ST225

I must be imagining the 2.5 litre Mk2 in my driveway then. Also, have the camouflage panels in the pics plus the number plate cover been photoshopped on by PH staff? Why?
Good point! Amended...
  • cough* Mondeo ST220 was a 3.0. Or does that not count because it has 220 after ST? :-)

And the trolls have arrived in force...

Shame they're going to have to walk everywhere in a few years because no one makes three door cars anymore, because most buyers don't want them.

I suspect that doesn't count because that wasn't a Focus.
