C'mon....new vs old is quite literally the longest running debate on PH. There's absolutely no way you can compare a leggy Vantage with a new Focus. It's two completely different markets, highlighted perfectly by the fact that you chose an Aston over a new Focus, and someone else (me) chose a new Focus RS over a Vantage.

It entirely depends what you prioritise when buying a car. I bought the Focus because I fancied a new car, Apple Car Play, a warranty and unmolested paint. I absolutely didn't want a second hand car this time round.

You can man maths the Vantage all you like, but it trying to compare one with the other is pointless. Having owned some older sports cars that have been a similar price to the Focus, I can categorically say they're monstrously expensive to run in comparison, impractical and feel old/tired compared to a new hot hatch. Furthermore, a modern hot hatch would run rings round most sports cars. My Focus is significantly faster on track than my old Cayman, it'll do more laps before expiring and it's considerably more fun to drive on the road too.

There's space for old and new cars, but to suggest one is the same as the other is frankly stupid.

30k on a Ford Focus is ridiculous. Showing my age now, but why on earth would a family man splash out that much cash on a new Ford Focus?
Each to their own I suppose
What brand new 5door car with 275ish bhp and decent handling would you buy instead?

I'm guessing that you are just out of touch with the prices of new cars.
yes Totally

Can't wait to see it unveiled, I'm sure it will be excellent!

Let's hope the good old days of Ford Employee discounts come back, I can remember paying £20k in 2013 for a fully loaded Focus ST3 bounce
So 20k to 30k in 5 years is "yes Totally" then (even accounting for employee discounts)?
Try reading his post again, he pain 20k with Employee discount...

Nice try mr ahbefive but v8 vantage discs and pads brembo from eurocarparts come in at about £500 so slightly cheaper than your grand for pads quote wink and you can probably take another 35% off that price with there discount this weekend
That was the price from Aston Martin for genuine pads, not discs. Yes you can get inferior parts for less as with any car.

To compare running costs between these cars is just laughable.

to be honest I think the whole thing was sort of a wind up because you seem to bite every time the name Ford Focus gets a mention on here
It’s almost become a daily thing,

2.3 should be pretty tuneable.

My mk3 has been a good car. They only thing they need to work on is getting the power down in less than bone dry conditions!

The mk4 is even more uninspiring looks wise that the MK3 though. Might be biased but I thought the estate looked better - will there be an estate this time?

I would have made the same point if someone was comparing a Vantage with any brand new hot hatch be it an i30N, Megane etc. The comment came from someone saying how could a new Focus (could have been any new hot hatch as they all cost roughly the same) be worth £30k, could have a 12 year old Vantage, 4 Rolex watches or 5million pot noodles etc . The comparison is plain retarded.

If you think you are being funny or on the "wind up" more fools you. You can be the next Humandoing if that's what you want. Nobody is laughing with you, at you maybe.

Who compared a pot noodle or watch etc as an alternative to a £30k new Ford Focus?
Well a quick read through this thread and its ahem yourself, but I do agree that your above comparison does sound just plain retarded.
Personally I would rather own a 12 year old Aston Martin instead of a new 30k Ford Focus, can’t see that comment as retarded though, just an alternative opinion, but I’m sure I’ve already said that tongue out lol

So they are going to use the same engine that has been giving so many problems in the RS! I'll stick with my Type R thanks.

So many problems? Nope just the one problem of which I'd imagine all have been repaired free of charge by now.

Like just the one (ongoing) problem with the Type-R transmission which hopefully will also be fixed under warranty with very little hassle.

Or maybe just the 1other problem being the paint issues they are having as referred to in the same thread.

And yet for some the badge on the front of the car will still be more important than the driving experience.

The Focus 2012-2018 was decent car, I had a 1.6 Ecoboost 180 estate and it was no slouch, low insurance, low tax and well equipped as a Titanium X. Cheap to buy a year old example too.

Only issue was legroom in the back, as the family got taller I bought a bigger car. Wife has a facelifted 1.0 Focus Hatch and it's a great little gocart.
