Surely this shameless barrel scraping can't be doing the AM brand any good at all?
THIS! 1000% this. Yes it brings in plenty of money and, despite they hype and the fancy accounting, they aren't exactly what you'd call a buoyant going concern. If there was a specialist market for it, I'm convinced Andy Palmer would be stripping on pay-per-view internet channels. They appear to be attempting to redefine luxury brand whoring. Bring back the leather boxer shorts. They were considerably less crass than this. cookie1600 said:
Not sure why I had to read another online publication to get the answer, but here it is:
"Regardless, you won't be able to deploy any of the gadgets on public roads, as Aston Martin explicitly states the cars won't be street legal."

Perhaps it wasn't on the Press Release PH received?
the article on PH says:"Regardless, you won't be able to deploy any of the gadgets on public roads, as Aston Martin explicitly states the cars won't be street legal."

"they won't be road legal so can come with “authentic reproductions” of the gadgets that featured on Q's customised Aston, including those revolving number plates. (Which are there for show, of course, not to evade speed cameras…)"

My point is that if I was a wealthy heritage AM customer I might be reading that press release as a case of "hey Mr Customer, you look rich and stupid, so why not hand us the thick end of £3m for a car you can't drive on the road, with gadgets that don't actually work simply because of it's novelty value".

They are not being sold as road legal so as to avoid the current legislation for road cars.
However they could be made road legal depending on the country the buyer lives in, once they take ownership.
Or sit on it for 10 years, then it can go on the road in the UK after that anyway.
Or just buy a proper, nicely restored, DB5 for 1/6th the price and either spend as much/little as you like gluing tacky ste on to it, or don't bother. However they could be made road legal depending on the country the buyer lives in, once they take ownership.

Its not like the DB4 GT where they only made 75 of them and they're worth millions - they built over 1000, they're relatively speaking readily available, and they're a fraction of the price of this replica.
I mean seriously, 33k miles on this and it looks immaculate and its well under a million quid: https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
You can even drive it without trailering it somewhere or pissing about trying to get it registered via some loophole.

Agreed, that blue is a lovely colour but IMHO doesn't suit the car. Its not like the DB4 GT where they only made 75 of them and they're worth millions - they built over 1000, they're relatively speaking readily available, and they're a fraction of the price of this replica.

Strangely that car left the factory in James Bond Silver Birch

If it's never been registered I think you'll find it will have to undergo a SVA to do that, and that won't be good on a 60 year old car designHowever they could be made road legal depending on the country the buyer lives in, once they take ownership.

Presumably the market for this 'surely you're taking the piss ' joke is similar to the Steve McQueen industry ? You know the one - it is where middle aged men with self esteem issues bolster their ego by wearing -tragically- Gulf branded kit. Or in one case , lashing out $700, 000 for Saint Steve's very own Gulf branded race overalls ...
Not sure it being road legal matters. They will just be bought as vanity pieces. Have fun with the ejector seat in your garage.
I really like the concept of manufacturers taking old knackered cars of interest, rebuilding them and selling them again as used cars, but instead of saving cars, they are just putting more out of reach of the average driver.

Now I get the idea of 1 or perhaps 2 Museum pieces for 007 buffs but 25 x £2.75m cars that cannot be driven on public roads makes no sense to me at all.. (Other than a masterstroke of 'money for old rope' by Aston Martin).
Spend a fortune on an old car, ok, but at least be able to drive the flamin' thing. Even Chris Evans £12m Ferrari 250 can go for a spin...
