Discs are a consumable part, just like tyres and brake pads and clutches; you can prolong their lifespan with mechanical sympathy and good driving, but they're going to wear out at some point. That's a fact.

Indeed but I think the point is they seem to wear out faster these days, that said cars weigh a lot more

I believe disc material (specific 'grade' of steel) has changed over the years, as has pad compound.

Discs are very cheap for small / low power cars though - e.g. 20 odd quid for a KA or similar - £35.00 inc pads - If you want to drive something heavy / powerful though you have to expect to pay for it though the PH favourite BMW 530d isnt exactly mega money at £120 for a set of brembo branded replacements.
