Try DPD couriers who we use on a daily basis for all our parcels and I'm pretty sure the single parcel limit is 30KG though you can of course book multiple parcels that weigh more than that (not in your case unless you're sending it in kit form!), you can book your parcel/s online or phone them, I believe they have depots right across the country.
The beauty of their system is that amongst other things, once the parcel is booked the system sends an automated email out to the receiving customer first thing in the morning with an estimated 1 hour delivery slot.
I'm pretty sure you can add additional insurance if you want to.

Thanks all. Not finding an increased cover option on the website UPS I rang customer service, to be met with a recording of a slightly fierce-sounding woman telling me about my rights, followed by all the operators being busy. Tried DPD - collection service a bit too much but drop-off price was good - but the nearest drop-off point was 7 miles away. In the end I used Parcel2go and guess what? It linked me back to UPS. With £142 cover it was about £15.50 and the drop off point was a local hairdresser only 0.4m away!
So Parcel2go, which was once Joe Public in their own cars I think, now seems to be Comparethecourier.com...

That's because when the shop keeper scans the package it's linked to the local depot which in this case would be Bury St EdmundsNickyboy said:

Ah. Then the system should be changed to give correct information - eg 'Awaiting collection'. A tracking system that tells you the package is somewhere it's not is rather a fail IMHO...!Mudgey said:
Be careful with Parcel2Go, if you get any issues they are a nightmare to deal with and incredibly slow, they only communicate via email. Don't use a company whom you can't pick up the phone and speak to them.
Not sure why you need to deal with parcel2go. I booked with Royal Mail 24 through parcel2go. Had a problem and called Royal Mail who sorted it out. OP are you checking P2G tracking or are you clicking through to UPS?
I use this service regularly to send out heaver items, never had an issue, never bothered with paying for extra cover.
What time did you drop off? I have to drop mine at my local newsagents by 11am to guarantee it will not miss the daily collection. If not it sits there until next day.

Our first contact was with the courier directly, UPS for example will only deal with the original contract holder, their contract is with P2G and so refused to speak with us despite having all the tracking, details etc...megaphone said:

The shop told me when I got there that the man had been in already and that the parcel wouldn't go until today. Hence my surprise about the false information.
As for cover, like all insurance it's a gamble but this time I'd budgeted for £20 shipping and didn't wan't to risk losing the bulk of £142 for the sake of a tenner.
And of course the reason I used Parcel2go and not UPS directly (my first plan) was because the latter's website didn't show me how to add extra cover and their phone was not a happy interface.
Checking the link again, it says 'Scheduled Delivery: Thursday, 23/08/2018 , By End of Day' which has to be nonsense because it won't have left the shop yet. The system seems a day out. But it will please the buyer, briefly!
