Presume it's not road legal due to current emission legislation. So what's the point of it?

The black wheels look too small and don't work IMO.

Standard seats, rather than sports seats, it doesn't look like a plush 993 turbo S.

Shame they didn't add a black bonnet stripe as per the 991 turbo pictured behind it.
interesting you pointed out on the missing stripe when they did put on those dark wheels based on the 991 turbo s gold edition yet dont match the car at all...stripes would have done a better job

I love the 993 Turbo, I once drove an Arena Red LHD one and loved it, wonderful car.

This is the worst specified example I have ever seen. It looks like it has been modified by an individual in his garage, not by Porsche or one of the proper tuners/ manufacturers like Ruf or Techart.

Also, if it's a Turbo S, why does it not say Turbo S on the back? Original 993 Turbo S cars had the Turbo S badge.

Apart from being a celebration of the 993 Turbo in general, they have really missed a trick with the spec of this car.

The S badge is out of stock.

Why did you join Pistonheads? I'm interested to hear the thought process.

I sold a Lotus Elise to a women back in 1999/2000, one of her other cars was a 1998 911 Turbo, I delivered the Elise and she gave me a lift back to the office in her 911.

F**k me she didn't hold back, I was a 21 year old whipper snapper and I recall being quite turned on by this older women, who must've been in her mid 40's, ragging her 911 Turbo to impress me. So these cars have always had a place in my heart.

A few posters are missing the point of this car completely.

It's intended as a showcase for Porsche Classic and Exclusive Manufaktur. All is explained in the article. So if you own a 993 or want to restore one it showcases what is possible and that Porsche have all the parts. It is also a marketing exercise for Exclusive Manufaktur following the successful and visually similar 991 Turbo. It doesn't matter if you don't like the colour or think it should have had different seats. The idea is that given the money you can customise your car as you wish.

For me, I love it! And I normally have much more conservative tastes. I think it's a great idea to follow the 991 with the same theme. I also saw Jason Plato's 991 Turbo S at the Silverstone Classic. His has the same treatment but on a black car with gold accents - looked stunning.

I look forward to more of the same from Porsche. Better still, let's see something akin to the latest Williams Singer. Now that would be something!

How depressing

If you are going to offer a retro 911 at least offer one of the good looking ones like Singer do. What’s the point in doing a 90’s blobby one that was ugly new and hasn’t improved with age, then painting it the least flattering shade of Jewish racing gold.

I just cannot understand car manufacturers building (and selling) cars that cannot legally be driven. Is there any other industry that could get away with this? How rich do you need to be to be happy buying something you can't use? Before this it was -r- models that are designed for drivers but then sell out with most seen as too valuable to put any miles on them. Are Porsche just seeing how far they can push it?

If Porsche are going to do something like this, I think the world really wants them to do it with the classic body shape. Don't think Singer will be losing any sleep.

apparently you have removed the turbo as well
Yes you're quite right, very observant as it's a Carrera 4S - I even removed the Turbo bootlid with integrated spoiler ;-)

My response was to the member who preferred the metallic burgundy colour - or Arena Red as the original 993 Turbo was launched in.

Most of the other posts on here have also failed to mention that the Gold recreation 993 Turbo has the Turbo S bodyshell with the extra airscoops, but have noted it doesn't have the Turbo S aero body kit.

It looks to me as though Porsche have created this car to showcase the availability of parts for their earlier 'classic ' cars - with the 993 being the chosen model.

They've tried to outsing the Singer, but it's out of tune.

Yes I did, but reading many of the other posts it appears they didn't fully or didn't actually get that message. They sidetracked themselves to compare with Singers or other "vintage, resto, recreation, reimagined" vehicles.

Even to the point of some saying its wheels don't look big enough - as if 18" x 8" front & 18" x 10" fitted with 285 30 18 tyres at the rear, wheels designed for the car in the mid 90's aren't appropriate.

Porsche appear in their marketing wisdom to have decided to relate this new built 993 Turbo to the Exclusive 991.2 Turbo S by sharing that cars Gold colour.

Porsche are not doing 'recreations' a la Singer on their earlier models. Just jumping in on the boom values of their earlier cars and showing they still stock or will re stock the necessary repair and restoration parts, which they've realised will be financially worthwhile to them.

The pre water cooled era cars have a relatively high survival rate, with values having rocketed in the last 5 years there are plenty that are now worth restoring / rejuvenating - the parts have to come from somewhere and Porsche are doing that.

Whatever they're plans, it's certainly got peoples interest and got them talking.

Is it just me that was expecting much more than a new build 993 in a gulf state colour?

A year and half to build a car that they were knocking out 20+ years ago which isn’t even road legal. I was sort of expecting at least 991 turbo performance and a modern dash etc etc.

Colour is pretty tacky, the Turbo wheels look good in silver, in anthracite they don’t. As a Turbo, shouldn’t it have Turbo seats, ie the ones with the ears?

Well I'm extremely underwhelmed about this. In fact I'm so underwhelmed about this that I'm not even going to read the article in full. I'm only writing this to ensure that my fellow internet strangers are aware of how close I am to slipping into a coma about reading half an article about another unobtainable exercise in predictably predictable ste! Singer do it better. This is not special enough.

Stunning in every way, well perhaps if they had done it in a better colour

Even though this is an actual Porsche built car and can claim all the glorious history associated with that I’d have a Singer over it anyday.
