A genuinely gorgeous-looking car, just shows others that designs don't need to be fussy to succeed.

However, I'm about £250k short of buying one, and as others have said, a more affordable car would be more relevant to us hoi-polloi (if tha'ts how its spelt!)

This really does look fantastic:

To coin the usual cheesy phrase, if this is the future of sports cars, then it could be a hell of a lot worse.

I think well done to Musk and the Tesla staff for having a damned good go at producing something to do the job that could be genuinely impressive.

Crack on guys - I look forward to seeing more.

A beautiful car, let's hope that Tesla get's bought by a business that can bring the following key elements that are missing in Tesla at the moment IMHO:

1) A quality interior commensurate with the purchase price

2) A purchase contract that doesn't include an NDA that prevents owners from disclosing quality problems they encounter - I know 3 S drivers who have this clause in their purchase agreement - I think it's std but maybe many people don't know about it ?

3) A roadmap that is actually delivered on - in time.

4) A leadership that is not a maverick and full of stunts and empty promises. (Mavericks are acceptable in startup mode - but Tesla is beyond that in my opinion and it's time for him to be replaced.)

This will be a hand-assembled item no doubt - when you don't have to push 5000/week things are a lot easier.
I think if Tesla concentrated on building what they've got orders for, rather than rolling out new models then they'd fair a lot better. Mind you, people queue up to put down deposits on future models which must help keep the company afloat!

I saw a chap in Guildford in a new 68 plate G63, he was prodding the loud pedal and giggling like a boy at the racket. The future may not be so exciting

If this car happens it will be astounding. I know the prototype was shown but with the way Mr Musk behaves god knows if it will come to fruition.

If they ever start delivering on their promises, then I'll take them seriously.

I had an order down for a model 3 but canned it as the chances of seeing a car in the UK in the foreseeable future was minimal and I'd rather the money was in my account than theirs if it did all go wrong...

Headline numbers like this are all well and good and it does sound exciting, but sounding is all it is doing. Tesla need to start delivering on promises as well as putting the hype out there.

This could be awesome, but I will reserve judgement until they actually produce it.

The Model 3 is now at 5,000 units a week...

It's also seen quarterly revenues go past $4bn...and they are now making money on the Model 3 at 15% Gross Margin, with 20% expected (Bloomberg analysis) by the end of the year.

Add in $2bn in the bank, the business is less shaky than it was.

If it has the range and performance claimed, it will simply not be practical nor be very roomy inside for the size of the vehicle being shown. Something has to give in the package and figures being shown here.

Nothing tangible has been shown of this vehicle. We saw a model with an electric power train stuck to it, and renders, yet people are applauding the company. Let's see something real for once Elon.

I like steam engines and quiche - both have character wink

looks more like a targa than a roadster... not really all that open-top is it?

Have to say, this was pretty much my thoughts on reading the article. It'll be a brave type who puts their cash into the Tesla bank account for this.

Looks a lot like the Bahar Lotus Elan, and just as likely to reach production

As a car, if it does come I only have one concern. How much is it going to weigh?

Just because a model S with 100 KW battery weighs 2.1 tonnes isn't this meant to have 200 KW battery that is going to be heavy whichever way you slice it.

Although just been on the Tesla site just lists performance and range nothing about how they will be achieved. scratchchin

The more you look into the more pie in the sky it appears.

How many cars produced need substantial rework before or after delivery though. I've seen lots of stories of bumpers falling off new Tesla 3's when it rains , aTesla X delivered with mismatched door cards and lots of comments that fit and finish would not be worthy of an 80's Lada.

Have to say the founders edition at $250k a pop is masterstroke for short term cash flow if the 1,000 are indeed all sold.
