Not sure why everyone is bhing.
You've been on PH's before right? hehe

Personally I don't get the SUV hate, I can see a lot of positives about them and I actually think a big 4x4 looks cool... getmecoat

Plus people generally forget that these things aren't really being designed for us (expecially the 'coupe' SUV which I don't like) but for the Chinese, who generally speaking have no concept of what 'gaudy' means.

They want something outlandish so they can be seen as having spent lots of money (which is a criminal offence in modern Britain).

Nothing wrong with SUV's if you want one to ferry your kids and shopping around. We have one for the wife.

The problem as I see it is with "the hate" as you're calling it and where it's coming from stems from:
a) The pointless ones with loads of power, which are ultimately never going to get used on a track, and if used on a road will likely come a cropper unless it's in a straight line, at which point it'll probably be seen driving right up someone's arse on the motorway trying to bully them out the way.
Regardless of how the manufacturer tries to dress them up as "sporty" they still look like a dog's dinner (Cayenne and Urus demonstrate this beautifully) because they're trying to be something they're not.

b) The utterly retarded looking "coupe" SUV's like the X4, X6, etc.
In these, the headroom in the back isn't big enough for an adult and the boot space is restricted, so at this point why would you not simply buy a normal SUV, or a proper sports coupe. Or a super saloon. Or an estate - any of which will look and drive better.
Cayenne or X6 vs M4 / C63 / RS5 / Cayman / 911? I don't get it, and I don't understand who buys them because they serve no purpose other than making the occupants / drivers look like total tits with no taste who clearly got a great deal on finance wink

I mean, an estate will do the "ferry kids and shopping around" task. An SUV is just an MPV for people in denial.

Many SUV's will also have 4WD, a bit of extra ground clearance, larger doors, making for easier access to lift kids in and out of car seats, more boot space by virtue of being taller etc.

Jack of all trades. Master of none.

The SUV hate is all a bit silly. If you won a FFRR Vogue at an airport raffle you would all fall in love and 100% 'get-it' (as long as you kept the less practical sports car too)!

My SUV dog, family and business kit carrying car handles, rides and goes better than my previous 535 estate car. It also weighs less than a similarly spacey/pacey RS6 Avant as its 'only' 1900kg. Today, in the snow I am NOT digging it out for 40 mins to get it back on the drive like I did with the previous F11 Beemer sledge. It's an absolute hoot to drive and a very naughty car! I have 100% 98 octane petrol in my veins and love it - an SUV - and I rest my case.judge

I have no time for the fastback SUV trend, but I always keep an SUV among my cars.....

This week had a major storm with lots of snow..good snow tires and the thing will climb a wall.
It's not all about appearances. I think the Cayenne is no looker and this one has 250,000 hard miles on it and works perfectly. Tons of nicks and scratches of course.
