Well if it adds even the smallest amount of downforce it cannot be purely cosmetic. Whether that gives any tangible difference in the characteristics of the car, I've no idea!!!
If the downforce doesn't make any difference to the characteristics, then it may as well be purely cosmetic. It'd probably be better if it actually was just cosmetic, in that case.

Wish they'd gone the other way and come up with a stretched 7 seater version.. options in this segment are limited.

It's probably there to offset the extra lift generated by the sloping roof line. Having said that it looks gopping...

I'd be very surprised if it does anything there. Other than looking crap.

Aprils fools already? Would look ok if the spoiler wasn't there, almost sleek. But that is godawful!! Will sell by the bucketload though..

I love how car companies just keep coming up with answers to questions no one ever asked. hehe Like hmmm people buy SUVs for practicality I know lets make a less practical ugly version.

Mercedes are probably looking at the Unimog and thinking we need a track day version of this to go alongside the C63 black just to finish off the range.

I'm far from a badge snob (and have never owned a "premium" car brand), but surely we can all accept that a Porsche badge does carry a bit of prestige?

That does look utterly naff I must admit. Sadly anyone with a relatively spacious wallet will lap it up because a) It's a Porsche and b) SUV's are in fashion. Fashions as we know often change and when looked back upon are realised to be a bit w*nk.

At least cars like this which sell to the average person who thinks they are a car enthusiast means Porsche can keep making actual enthusiasts cars.

I think PH has jumped to the wrong conclusion. It's actually an extending picnic table.

Thing is when you are as rich as Audemars pretends to be a Porsche is low rent.

Not sure why the Cayennes all have such ugly rear ends compared to the rest of Porsche's range.

Coupes are (usually) good looking.
That's just another ugly Dirtbox.

I simply cannot understand these vehicles...another high-riding 4x4 with a streamlined lower rear roofline...

Not a sports car, not a functional load carrying SUV, ugly s all get out. There are lots of them now. I actually have a Cayenne which is used for towing and all sorts heavy duties...its just fine as a working vehicle. This abomination seems to serve no purpose whatsoever. It will sell well of course....lots of them on the market. Eventually everyone will be in high-riding saloons so the advantage of driving a four-wheel grandstand will be lost...

I'll go against the grain.

I like it. It is the sort of car that would appeal to me as I like the lines of a coupe, but also some level of practicality.

Yes I could get some sort of shooting brake / estate but I also like the ride height both for getting in and out (Bad back / getting old) and the road presence.

But, I also like the X6, so I am probably in the minority.

So, given my likes / requirements above... what else would you suggest as a car for me if this is so bad?

I swear this is pretty much how Infiniti designed their QX70/FX but it was universally panned for rear headroom, lack of bootspace etc.

However I'm sure the Porsche even if similarly proportioned (and harsh ride-wise) will not be given the same flack

All of their cars are ugly have have been for the last 50+ yrs.

They are not only ugly but extremely repulsive especially the non GT 911s, boxsters and caymans.

I don't care if you buyers think they have some sort of prestige to their badge. The cars look cheap and boring like all range rovers.

Serious question. Which Roadster looks better than the 981/982 Boxster? F Type? 4C? I am genuinely interested. If you want an element of practicality, the Boxster is in a class of one with its two boots. It’s also the best handling Roadster this side (the practical side) of an Elise. If the 4 cylinder engine is a deal breaker, Porsche will sell you a very low mileage 6 cylinder one from the same showroom that the new ones emerge from. So, is there a better looking, or indeed better, Roadster than the Boxster? I haven’t seen it.
