I wouldn’t be seen dead in an ST. Great car, driven by terrible drivers, causing havoc in most council estates round the country. Which is why I chose the 208 GTI Prestige over the ST.

Personal opinion.
You are a funny man.

The 2010 Corsa 1.6 SRI is £295 every year, which incidentally is more the the same period Corsa VXR Nurburgring that has over 50 bhp more.
Yep sorry my bad, although it was hit and miss which one's had cheaper VED, Racing Edition and regular VXR both the same as the Sri, the Nurburgring and later Clubsport had the Euro 5 A16 rather than the Euro 4 Z16 engine.
I guess they didn't bother to fit the newer engine to the Sri - perhaps sales were not worth bothering for?

Differences were ECU (programming I assume) and also the CAT was relocated closer to the manifold from what I remember

Have you tried insuring a proper ST at 17?
Fair point...

Just fed the meerkats my details and 17-year old me with 0 years driving, 0 accidents but 0 no claims obviously --

2018 Fiesta ST - £3,199.84
2018 Corsa GSi - £1,089.01
When I was 17 no-one's first car was either remotely new or expensive!
The difference is, in modern times the majority of young adults have everything bought and done for them by mummy and daddy who are trying to keep up with the Joneses. Its embarrassing, and their failure as a parent to let their little darlings drive a £1000 battered Corsa.

Where did you get your figures from for this fact?

Figured since this was a discussion forum, I'd just actually ask you about it.

Half leather, sat nav and a panoramic roof. Whoever wrote the article I'm reading has a very different definition of "very desirable extras" than I do.
How are people supposed to judge your success in life if you don't tell them you bought the Prestige version of the 208 GTi, rather than the paupers edition?

The first word in entertainment, management, financial portfolios, insurance, computers, black leather gloves, research and development, putting in the man hours to study the science you need

biglaugh

Despite what the first Google link states, heated front seats and black alloys are also part of the Prestige trim. I think heated front seats could be classed by some as desirable, don’t you think?

It was a great little car, no unnecessary “sports” mode, no silly computers driving the car, manual gearbox, and a brilliant engine... really good fun.

Driving position isn’t everyone’s cup of tea though. No car is perfect I guess. Everyone has different opinions.

Although the 208 feels like a bit of a toy compared to the S4 I got in the summer.

I can only assume it'll be heavily discounted from that £19K price.
£2K more buys a Polo GTI which I would think is a better long term prospect for depreciation for those that can afford it and as others have said there's cheaper alternatives with specs as good if not better.
Had a look around and big discounts there are not.

A "Prestige" boot badge? Takes me back to the days of limited editions that really werent special just basic models with maybe a rear wash wipe and some bodyside pin stripes and a "Team" or "Cresta" or "Clubman" sticker on the back.

I don't get why Vauxhall doesn't undercut the competition by several thousands. Then no-one would care that their products are substandard. They might sell even more then.

If they were competing against Hyundai/ Kia and the like, people would go for a Vauxhall as it's has a sightly better image.

The Corsa is the 3rd best selling car of this year so far in the UK ( Golf 2nd place, Fiesta 1 st place )

Last year it was fifth place best seller so they must be doing something OK

Yeah I'm not saying Vauxhalls are bad cars but the Corsa GSi is proof that not all their offerings are class leaders.

I think they sell so well because of brand loyalty, but they'd surely improve their sales figures further if they cut prices and went up against budget brands.

Lol, yes but if I was selling apples for 10p each I’d rather sell ten of them at 10% margin than one apple at 20% margin

There’s currently one GSi on Autotrader for 13.8k! With 150 miles on the clock.

Seems a decent discount from 18k! But only one though, would have expected a fair few seeing at the order books opened in August/September.

The equivalent ST-Line Fiesta in 140bhp guise seems to be around 12-14k for a year old one.

So you think that dropping the price a bit would give them loads more sales?

As the old saying goes

Turnover is vanity, profit is sanity.

Nope. There’s no badge or logo identifying the Prestige trim from the rest.
