I had a few real M cars in the past. They were true drivers' cars. This thing is a sad ending for any meaning of the M designation.
Genuine question....When talking about true drivers cars, what does that even mean? It's a bit like looking out the window and saying, that's a lovely day today. What does that even mean? Sun with a nice breeze, roasting hot with no breeze?
Like there is no true definition that constitutes what makes 'a lovely day' there is no true definition of what a 'drivers car' is. It's just a term thrown around with no real context.
Ask any elite driver, Lewis Hamilton and co, what their ultimate drivers car is, I can guarantee you that they will all have different opinions. There isn't a checklist of boxes that need ticked for a car to be called a drivers car....or maybe there is and I've missed it?
Got thrown the keys to one of these today, biggest overhyped pile of wk, cannot believe that this will be the base of the M135i, very disappointing!
Compared to my Type R, it’s a shopping trolley with a powerful engine that doesn’t act like one, I certainly hope a Golf R doesn’t feel like this! The first gear in the X2 had nothing in it, rev limiter is at 7k but after about 6, there’s nothing there, the only time it felt like it’s got something about it was when you changed gear, quick changes sure but nothing like the M140i

A client of mine is a BMW salesman and he saw my Type R and threw me the keys saying try this, it’s really good so I got in it slightly worried I had made a mistake by going for a Civic but I actually went on a short drive as I just wasn’t interested in driving it, it felt so numb and the steering was terrible, no engine noise, just the parps on the up shift, I told him next time he as time, he can take my car and see how Honda managed to make a hot hatch that makes you forget about 0-60 times the moment you sit inside it.
I say over hyped as there are adverts everywhere, it’s definitely not over hyped on PH, everyone moans at everything (yes I’m moaning too but I drove it so it’s different)

I think I may be reading this incorrectly but are you comparing a type R with this? I tried one of these not so long ago and genuinely enjoyed the experience but I was on main roads in and around Toronto and not on the track. It was comfortable, quick and had a decent ride.I say over hyped as there are adverts everywhere, it’s definitely not over hyped on PH, everyone moans at everything (yes I’m moaning too but I drove it so it’s different)

Well I wasn’t after a car like the Type R, my shortlist had many cars, some of which were opposites, I had a budget, either cash or PCP and needed to replace my 4 series, ended up saving a lot of money and debt and going for the Type R, fantastic car. I didn’t mean to compare the X2 M35i directly with the Civic but it’s an M lite BMW with 300 bhp, I expected so much of it and left with the same conclusion you had, which isn’t a necessarily a bad thing if it wasn’t meant to be a ‘hot’ version. It felt slow, heavy and numb compared to my Civic, just as everything else German does.
I’m rambling on about Civics in a lot of threads and it may get annoying for some regular posters but I just love that car so much, everybody should experience one

The Civic is lethal in the wet so watch out
Over the years I’ve owned a few cars that were tagged with that description of being lethal in the wet.Never lost control of one yet , no damage to any car or more importantly me.
Because it accelerates the rusting process.

Gets marginally lighter with every downpour. My Puma used to, anyway.
