Modern BMWs are at the bottom of reliability surveys after Land Rover.

Not only are they unreliable and but they depreciate heavily. M3/M4 owners losing £35k in 3 yrs is the norm it would appear.

What I find really absurd is how owners would not own a BMW without a £1k per year warranty after 3 yrs.

Good cars????

Youtube BMW videos and meets amd just look at the owners.

BMW, Audi and Range Rover are the brands I avoid at all cost.

Yes you tell us frequently.

How do you feel about the fact that one of the pretend cars you once pretended you owned is based on an Audi ? Is that why you pretended to sell it ?

He should just get a new Skoda then? They're rather good these days. Get one in L&K spec for that knowledge that you've got enough money for a nice car, but don't really want to shout about it.
I quite like Skodas but a lot of folk who buy Audi and BMW etc wouldn't be seen dead in one as was thinking of getting the 280 bhp Superb, I asked on Facebook whether people would go for a top spec Skoda Superb or a base spec Audi A1 if given a choice, no cash alternative, just either car to use for a year.

I asked as I got a strange reception when I mentioned it to someone, quite a few realised the value, and how much more pleasant the top spec Superb would be over a bog spec A1 but quite a few wouldnt not be seen dead in a Skoda, their ego could not comprehend it, even though they know they are ok and basically made from a lot of the same stuff they just arent high enough in the pecking order to meet with their approval, the car is fine, but the brand isnt good enough.

I am largely agnostic about car brands, I just like what I can afford that goes fast, it just so happens the Germans make a lot of fast stuff, quite happy with Fords, had a Nissan 350Z, Citroens whatever, jsut different priorites and what I like, some people like brands, doesnt mean they are worng.

You only have to watch Youtube channels like UK Dashcams etc to see what sort of muppetry goes on - the clips where you think 'Fuuuuuck eek' is usually either a BMW or Audi.
Thank you.
You have helped me to realise that you're a moron without having to read any more of your posts. I just can't get my head around how stupid someone would have to be to try and generalise about drivers of the 5th highest selling manufacturer in the UK. laugh

Reminds me a few years back there was a BMW 318i pool car. 80-odd thousand pool car (i.e. hard) miles and there wasn't a squeak or rattle to be heard.

It wasn't the fastest car ever but was a remarkably pleasant place to spend time, especially on a long motorway run. I can see why they're popular.

Isn't the phrase upper class chav an oxymoron? There are plenty of chavs in our area and class is not the first word that springs to mind. Perhaps ignorant, rude, tasteless, workshy, loud, aggressive, uneducated, thick, but not upper class.

All this stereotyping stuff is such bullst. You can apply a bad stereotype to any car you like if want to.

Ferrari: Chav lottery winners and footballers

Bentley: Orange people and footballers

Lambo: You like to drive around Knightsbridge revving the tits off it.

Aston Martin: man child 007 wanna bee.

Rolls Royce: Gangsta rapper.

Range Rover: Drug dealer or rapper.

All of these are un true for 99% of owners and most people don't think that way about brands. You can twist anything to have a bad image if you want. On the flip side you could say nice things about all of the above as well. It says more about you than the cars that you stereotype.

This resonates for me a little bit as I've gone from an M135i to a B9 Audi A4 to a Skoda Octavia vRS 245. All three cars have been competent but the BMW was (obviously) the nicest to drive due to it's straight 6 engine and RWD.

In terms of brands though, I'm not arsed that I now drive a Skoda. It's a very nice car to drive and it's got all manner of toys as standard compared to the other two (elec & heated seats, folding mirrors, refrigerated glovebox, sat nav, bluetooth with music streaming, Apple car play, LED lights, cruise control etc. etc.)

I'd love another 6 cylinder petrol BMW though. Lovely things.

Those numbers are not particularly useful.....

Considering companies that share parts and engines etc are spread so far apart! How are Peugeot and Citroen so far apart?

What about the VAG group - skoda near the top , Audi near the bottom and vw way down.... perhaps the guys from Audi ought to pay skoda a visit and see how it’s done biggrin
I think the data is as said very much squewed by public perception and the type of driver each brand attracts.

My gut feeling is Citroen's generally doe have more small issues with trim etc than their Pug counter part. But that a Skoda is as well nailed together as an VW or Audi.

I drive a tidy E46 as a cheap way to get a nice looking car with a 3l petrol engine and black leather interior. As a senior mechanical engineer I am in no way a Chav, for clarity!

In fairness to the OP's mate, BMW's do seem to attract the lower orders as they age (the cars, not the lower orders). The E90's now are going through their council phase now. They usually seem to come out the other side with some respectability when the enthusiasts that can afford to look after them properly get hold of them again.
I think there’s a lot of truth in this. I’m sure it affects other brands too but I felt it when I had my 1 series and as much as I love my E92 3 coupe, they are now more often than not driven by, how should I put it, bellends.

Exactly ! We need to reserve that kind of ridiculous generalisation for people who drive SUVs.

I think the main problem is there are an awful lot of bellends out there and so the law of averages mean many of them drive cars.

That doesn’t mean he’s wrong. I have witnessed similar behaviour, usually from some sort of German Whip.

Nail on the head! In another thread someone on here said the S-Type was a car was driven by retired golf enthusiasts, you could say in the same way a BMW is driven by a drug dealing chav. It is all silly.

The reason why there are a lot of BMWs on the roads is because they are (by and large) well made cars that handle nicely, are good on fuel, are premium enough to have a few creature comforts but not out and out luxury cars. They are a kind of 'everyman' car that is a good all-rounder.
They are popular because they are good at what they do.
For some you are right. For many it is simply for the badge. It could be an utter stbox and many wouldn't notice, but will still tell you how great their BMW is.

E90s I agree with, always seem to be driven by chavs especially the lesser 318/320i/d models. Most will probably blow up with timing chain issues in a few years anyway

And only well balanced, discerning types drive Focus STs then?
