A deeply unattractive car to these eyes. Not concerned with the engine as I couldn't get past the looks anyway!

Lovely looking car to my eyes. I struggle with a lot of modern designs, but this is clean and very attractive, IMO. I was (and still am) a massive fan of the original CLS, too.

Interior and tech looks great. Styling of the latest Mercs is a bit too bland for me though, Thry started going downhill when they brought out/ people bought the CLS 220D with AMG styling. Hate the rear. I have a mk2 CLS and it has a lot more road presence and looks far better imho. The Mk1 is best looking of course.

Agree. Especially from the rear and rear 3/4.

The headlights are a little similar to the Mustang, but that's about it. Passat.....are you for real? Or did you just pick any random car? The rear lights are different, the whole rear end is totally different (notice the sloping end of the rear 3/4 on the CLS which continues to the boot lid as well, whereas the Passat bootlid is basically flat).

I guess it has 4 wheels though.

You’d have to really want one of these to justify it over the similarly priced C63 saloon.
I think I'd find easy to chose this over c63 saloon which looks pretty bland to me compared to the cls and has a very fussy interior for my tastes

Fair enough. It's obviously very subjective (and I'm somewhat biased owing a coupe) but my point was more towards the drive train. Not seeing the major difference in interiors though? To my eyes they're almost identical.

Be still my beating heart, a current Merc that I quite like the look of; I do believe that I will go for a sit down!

Joking aside I really quite like the exterior of that, much more so than the C63 saloon which looks like it has melted, particularly from the rear.

The interior is bloody vile, however. Damn.

Love these new merc interiors, how anyone can compare this to the c63 is beyond me as the interior is a complete joke in them, same as the previous e class.

I’m torn now between thee new e saloon, cls or e class coupe which has a stunning rear end.

I'm biased as I'm my 5th M car so perhaps I wouldn't get either but the c class has different interior to the cls to my eyes almost completely? The c63 coupe I like as it has nice flared rear arches the saloon has none.

Hideous interior. Will sell well in the UK.

Looks exactly the same as the AMG GT 4-door. Why can't companies produce a range of cars that all have their own identity any more? Everyone seems to be going down the same route of coming up with a corporate look, and then enlarging/reducing it to fit the latest market niche they're trying to create. I really can't get excited about it.

Are you implying that it will sell well because it has, in your opinion, a hideous interior?

I'm not sure how old you are, or whether you have a short memory, but this really isn't anything new? Look at the different Mercedes models from 30-40 years ago and tell me they don't all have a corporate look! And BMW. And Aston Martin, Porsche, Audi, Toyota, Nissan etc etc And just about every other manufacturer.

Lets be honest; this isn't going to be the last word in sports cars, is it? I don't see this as being in any way a speedster, so to me, it's a bit like a fat bloke going to the gym pretending to be fit, and wearing spandex. Nobody really wants to see that...

If, on the other hand, you can accept that it's maybe more of a comfortable place first, with a bit of pace second, then I think we're onto a different discussion. How will this fare against direct rivals (including within MB)?

Personally, I would have gone for something a little more opulent, and with less power / more economy, because the power aspect, as I mentioned, is not its party piece. As it is, spandex anyone...?

Absolutely, but the differences are not quite as apparent in the AMG trim, no?

Lovely thing but certainly a car to buy at three or four years old. The value loss on the CLS is quite frightening.
